Father's Day

Father's Day was sunny and warm.  The kids were all here, all except for Noah...who was with his Daddy.
I went out to the garden early to see what  I could harvest and add to BBQ.
Every day now, I am bringing in a variety of vegetables.  On this day, it was corn, cabbage, tomatoes, zucchini, cilantro, cucumbers, sugar snap peas and of course, eggs.
Everything gets a good wash.  I began to prep for the BBQ that evening.  We were having grilled burgers, grilled hot dogs, all the fresh trimmings, and a large fresh fruit salad.  Gennifer was making some fresh Berry Crumble, and I made the homemade ice cream to go on top.
First the strawberry ice cream.
Next up, Vanilla Bean.
These went into the freezer to firm up for several hours.
Erika was here, and I didn't get any photos.  Sorry Eri!  Gennifer and her family arrived, and hit the pool first thing.
Our water loving Lab somehow nudged his way in through the fence, and took over the pool with his rambunctious play.
After raking his nails across our poor little Hannah's forehead, he had to be drug by the collar out of the pool, and into timeout on the patio.  The pool is at a delightful 86 degrees!  Those solar covers make all the difference in the world!
Geeps is the Grill Master.  He can't escape that duty, even on Father's Day.
We had a simple meal out on the outer patio.
After dinner, the girls and I spent some time on the swing and visiting the chickens.
The hens got a treat of watermelon rind and cantaloupe seeds.
After we let our dinner settle a bit, we had a special treat.  Fresh berry crumble that Gennifer made, and topped with homemade ice cream.

Crowned with a fresh sprig of mint from Gennifer's garden.
Mmmmmmmm!!!!!
It was a really nice day.

Tired little girls, with ketchup smeared faces, were gathered up to go home after an afternoon of swimming and fun.  A good day was had by all.
XO  Kris

Looks like a great day! The fruit crumble and homemade ice cream have my mouth watering! I love serving desserts in the mason jars, so easy to hand them out! I cheated and picked up ribs & brisket from our favorite barbecue place, too much going on here!

Hi Kris, I just tried to comment on Feedly and it lost my comment-so here goes again. Love seeding your family time; your harvest is always so abundant(good job). What a fun time your family has together. We did breakfast here and hubby cooked the eggs, everyone else pitched in too.
He did bbq in the evening for the two of us. Hope you're having a great day!
Hugs, Noreen

Kris,

Your Father's day looks wonderful. My dogs are the same way. I don't know why my cabbage didn't come up this year, I'm going to try again. Hey I wanted to ask you in one of your old post's you had a recipe for compost that you said something about buying a bag of manure for 98 cents at Wal-Mart and I can't remember what type it was. This being the first few months of us being on the acreage I haven't made compost yet, and we don't have chickens yet but will come Fall.

Hugs,

Valerie

Sounds like a lovely family get together for Father's day. We celebrate Father's day in early September, which is Spring here.

That pool looks inviting, it's nice to come here and look at your lovely summer pictures, while we are cold and wet here in Aussie land...

What a great day for Greg and all of you! We had a similar day, but of course, without my 3 girls in Ohio. And without the gorgeous pool. :-) Talk soon! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a great day with the family! We've been making a lot of ice cream around here too. Finally bought a freezer for our garage since I couldn't get anything into the side by side we have in the kitchen. Ready to stock up now!
