Hello blogland! I have been busy like most folks, getting the Christmas decorations packed and put away for another year. Which then means, the house needs a good cleaning. And then to find and figure out where you put all the stuff you took down when you put your Christmas stuff up?
I have not done too much crochet or knitting in a few months. I did some, but not like usual. And I never opened my shop to sell my wares this year. I did a lot of sewing this year in place of the crochet. So after Christmas, I was ready to get hook in hand, and make something for pure pleasure, and not for sale. I had seen this Poncho on Lucy's blog, of Attic24 I fell in love with it. Prior to that, there was one all over blogland which originated from my friend Annette at My Rose Valley I still love her Nordic Shawl, and hope to make it too. Then, my girlfriend Pammy Sue at Scotty's Place made the Granny Stripe Poncho....and I had to get my hands on some yarn and make it. After I admired it, and told her how much I loved it, I asked her where she got the pattern, and she promptly sent it to me. But....I couldn't read the text too well, so I went in search of the magazine that the pattern was in. Luckily Barnes & Noble had it! I knew I had all of the yarn to make this, and couldn't get home fast enough to begin.
This is the magazine that the pattern is in. It is published in the UK but it is sold here too. You must remember that if you are in US, our stitches are slightly different. So the UK Treble is our Double Crochet. Other than that, all you need to know is how to do a Front and Back Post stitch. You can Youtube it and find out how it is done.
I hit the yarn jackpot one day in a thrift. It was a box of mostly Vanna's worsted weight, in mustard and terra cotta, and oatmeal. The skeins were all still in their plastic bags that yarn is in when shipped. So they were clean, and new enough that I knew I could find more if I needed to. I also had found some in this Denim Blue, and this box contained about 8 skeins of chunky acrylic/wool blend., made in England. I used some of this as well. My colors were oatmeal, mustard, terra cotta and denim. This is the one in the magazine. I adore the ribbed cowl neck. This is where you will be doing your FP and BP stitches. Her pattern calls for a yarn change each row. But I didn't want that many colors in mine.
I also wanted mine longer, so I added several rows. So glad that I did. I am about 5 foot 6 1/2, and wanted it to fall past my hips.
My grandson's room is the room with one wall mirrored. Yea, Greg and Dusty and I would never fit in that bed! Anyway...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way this turned out. It is soft, and warm, and cozy, and even though I have not blocked it, it drapes just right. I decided to go with the tassled fringe, as I think it adds an element of femininity.
This morning I took some photos of it outside on the line.
I got the magazine on New Year's Eve. I started it that afternoon. It took me a couple of days to finish the cowl neck portion. It was very cold and rainy and even snowed very near us that weekend! The perfect weather to have a growing yarn project on your lap to keep you warm.
I finished it late yesterday afternoon, and wouldn't you know it, the weather has gone from freezing to 80 degrees!! So I won't be wearing it just yet. But this was a very fun project to make. And maybe I have said this before, but this was my favorite crochet make to date! In fact, I will be starting another one right away. Maybe in the same colors, with a different pattern of rows, as I still have plenty of the yarn left to make at least one more.
One last picture, having nothing to do with the poncho, is a wire cart I painted in Sea Glass to keep in my sewing room. I love the color. In it is my last order from Fat Quarter Shop. Oh la la!!!!
Happy New Year!!!!!
XO Kris

That is so prett...y! I love it...and I love the colors. It looks so cute on you
You look adorable and I remember when I had on in kindergarten. Imagine they're back in style.
It is beautiful Kris!!! I love it. I get this magazine and saw this, I think that I prefer your longer version I have to say! I have made a Nordic Shawl that I just finished in November and I made that larger than the pattern as you made the poncho larger as I like to be able to wrap up nicely. Not sure whether to say that I hope the weather gets colder so you can wear it again, or that it stays warm so that you are not cold! xx
Oooh La La indeed!Great job, Kris and it really suits you. Happy New Year to you and yours. xxx
Your poncho turned out great and it looks very nice on you (love the boots!). I know what you mean about putting everything away, finding the stored items and cleaning, but it feels rewarding when it's all done. Looking forward to seeing how your next poncho. Take care, Heather
I wish I had that poncho wrapped around me right now. It is 2 degrees right now. I think I'm going to crawl back in bed with my book!!
Best,
Bonnie
Love it Kris ! I saw that on Lucy's blog and thought it would be great to make ! I might have to go get that magazine! Here with our weather I could wear it in the house :)!
Diane is going to be so happy about all the information you have in this post about the poncho! We were talking about it last night and she was wondering where you got the pattern. I knew I had read "somewhere" (Facebook, Instagram, your blog, lol) that you had said a magazine but I didn't know which one. She quickly figured it out but wondered where you had gotten the magazine. Soo you have answered everything, lol. We both LOVE the poncho. It is just soo cute and soo perfect for me. I so prefer something draped over me rather then a sweater or a coat on my arms. The colors and the style are so cute. I bet you could take orders and sell this like hotcakes, lol. Anyway, enjoy your day!
I love this!! Every time I see one of these in the works I want to make one but then I remind myself that I tend to get tangled in ponchos. I love the colors of yours!
It looks so so cute on you, Kris! I just love it. I'm so glad you had as much fun as I did making it. I keep thinking about starting another one too. I might as well use up some of that yarn I have stashed all over the place! Love the rack and the color. Wishing you some cold weather so you can wear that poncho all over town!
You look great in your new creation. I swear this reminds me of a poncho my mom crocheted for me in the '60s, I loved that thing and wore it out!
What a lovely poncho! Gosh I didn't know they were back in style. I made one for my daughter back in the 80's. I can still see. her wearing it.
I had seen your picture on Instagram, but not the one taken outside! The colors are so vibrant and beautiful! You did such an amazing job! Happy New Year!
Blessings,
Jill
Hi Kris:
You have to check out my blog post I just put up about 5 minutes ago. I started a poncho last night from this same pattern. Wasn't the cowl fun to make. I haven't decided on what edging to to yet, the fringe or a border. Love yours though. Beautiful!
Blessings,
Betsy
Kris, your poncho is darling, LOVE the colors. It looks so cute on you, hope you get some cool weather, soon. Your cart looks great, love the Sea Glass, one of my favorite colors! The fabric in it is pretty, too. Nothing like aquas and reds!
I love how your poncho turned out! And it's awesome how much you enjoyed doing it. I made a poncho once out of handspun alpaca that I spun myself in soft beige, brown and black. I have no idea where it is now.. lol. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Oh Kris, I love this poncho. Beautiful...looks better than the pattern ;)
And you said my shawl was nice!
This is gorgeous....really!
Hope you are well and happy...
You look beautiful as always♥️
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I like your poncho more than the magazine version and you model it beautifully, Kris! I so admire your many talents and accomplishments!! Happy New Year to you and yours, Kris, and much love xx ps the cart is pretty and full of so much fun :-)
LOVE your poncho and it looks so cute on you! I can't believe you made that in such a short time! You sure could sell a lot of those this time of year...we have a 2hr school delay today because our windchill is so low.
Happy New Year!
It looks fabulous on you. You are just so adorable...cute boots, too.
You are so talented! Love the poncho and I think it was a great idea to make it longer. It looks so cute on you!
LOVE the poncho, Kris ... looks GREAT on you, too! Don't you just LOVE The Fat Quarter Company?? They are VERY dangerous in my house, especially with their Daily Deals. Keep stitching ... stay warm! It's -25 below zero wind chill with 10-12" of snow expected tonight ... from COLD Northern Michigan! Linda
I need that poncho...If I get started and stuck will you walk me through it? I have a gift card to B&N that I know what to do with now.
It's beautiful, just like you!
Love it , looks so nice on you!!
Enjoy, Janie
