Boho Poncho Ta-Da!

Hello blogland!  I have been busy like most folks, getting the Christmas decorations packed and put away for another year.  Which then means, the house needs a good cleaning.  And then to find and figure out where you put all the stuff you took down when you put your Christmas stuff up?
I have not done too much crochet or knitting in a few months.  I did some, but not like usual.  And I never opened my shop to sell my wares this year.  I did a lot of sewing this year in place of the crochet.  So after Christmas, I was ready to get hook in  hand, and make something for pure pleasure, and not for sale.  I had seen this Poncho on Lucy's blog, of Attic24  I fell in love with it.  Prior to that, there was one all over blogland which originated from my friend Annette at My Rose Valley  I still love her Nordic Shawl, and hope to make it too.  Then, my girlfriend Pammy Sue at Scotty's Place  made the Granny Stripe Poncho....and I had to get my hands on some yarn and make it.  After I admired it, and told her how much I loved it, I asked her where she got the pattern, and she promptly sent it to me.  But....I couldn't read the text too well, so I went in search of the magazine that the pattern was in.  Luckily Barnes & Noble had it!  I knew I had all of the yarn to make this, and couldn't get home fast enough to begin.

  This is the magazine that the pattern is in.  It is published in the UK but it is sold here too.  You must remember that if you are in US, our stitches are slightly different.  So the UK Treble is our Double Crochet.  Other than that, all you need to know is how to do a Front and Back Post stitch.  You can Youtube it and find out how it is done.
I hit the yarn jackpot one day in a thrift.  It was a box of mostly Vanna's worsted weight, in mustard and terra cotta, and oatmeal. The skeins were all still in their plastic bags that yarn is in when shipped.  So they were clean, and new enough that I knew I could find more if I needed to.  I also had found some in this Denim Blue, and this box contained about 8 skeins of chunky acrylic/wool blend., made in England.  I used some of this as well.  My colors were oatmeal, mustard, terra cotta and denim.  This is the one in the magazine.  I adore the ribbed cowl neck.  This is where you will be doing your FP and BP stitches.  Her pattern calls for a yarn change each row.  But I didn't want that many colors in mine.

I also wanted mine longer, so I added several rows.  So glad that I did.  I am about 5 foot 6 1/2, and wanted it to fall past my hips.

My grandson's room is the room with one wall mirrored.  Yea, Greg and Dusty and I would never fit in that bed!  Anyway...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way this turned out.  It is soft, and warm, and cozy, and even though I have not blocked it, it drapes just right.  I decided to go with the tassled fringe, as I think it adds an element of femininity.
This morning I took some photos of it outside on the line.

I got the magazine on New Year's Eve.  I started it that afternoon.  It took me a couple of days to finish the cowl neck portion.  It was very cold and rainy and even snowed very near us that weekend!  The perfect weather to have a growing yarn project on your lap to keep you warm.
I finished it late yesterday afternoon, and wouldn't you know it, the weather has gone from freezing to 80 degrees!!  So I won't be wearing it just yet.  But this was a very fun project to make.  And maybe I have said this before, but this was my favorite crochet make to date!  In fact, I will be starting another one right away.  Maybe in the same colors, with a different pattern of rows, as I still have plenty of the yarn left to make at least one more.
One last picture, having nothing to do with the poncho, is a wire cart I painted in Sea Glass to keep in my sewing room.  I love the color.  In it is my last order from Fat Quarter Shop.  Oh la la!!!!
