I had already soaked the beans this morning for a couple of hours, and picked them through. So they were ready to go into the pot about noon when I started the soup. I sliced up the rest of my ham, into large pieces and dumped that in the pot, along with the beans, and about 6 to 8 cups of water. No need to measure, just so long as the liquid covers the beans with a good inch to spare.
Next, I tossed in a little salt, not too much with ham and bacon, you don't need much, and a generous amount of cracked pepper.
Also added one can of chicken broth too. At this point you could also add a few stalks of celery cut up, and I like the leafy green tops too, there is a lot of flavor there. Bring to boil, then put down to simmer, and let it cook rest of the day. The house smells SO good! I will probably just have salad and corn bread with it. I saw this set of Santoku knives in the Sam's mailer a couple weeks ago. I have one Wusthof Santoku that I use every day, and love! This is a 4 piece set by Wolfgang Puck. It was very inexpensive, and I love it. A perfect set for just about any kind of cutting. Keep your knives sharp, GENNIFER...are you listening! Otherwise they are more dangerous, just ask my daughter.

That looks yummy. I made a Turkey today for leftovers since my house was tore apart on Thanksgiving. I hope it turns out as good as your soup looks. Shelbie
I want to move in! Can I?
Shelbie,
I hope everything is much better this week, and that the turkey is yummy.
Kelly-Yes!
I LOVE white bean soup. Nothing like a bowl of soup on a chilly day. I was going to put some stew together in my crock pot before I left for work today but I forgot to get the meat out of the freezer last night. I guess I'll make it tomorrow.
Looks delicious, Im doing the same thing tomorrow only with split peas and left over ham......
Mmmmm. Looks delicious. I can smell it from here. I bet that's good on a cold day. We don't have very many cold days here in Florida.
Ooooh, I bet that was so good, especially with cornbread. Sounds like a perfect meal for a winter's day.
Oh Kris,
If I could only come on over and get a bowl of that soup. I am so hungry right now and that soup smells so good and I can taste it. The cornbread I don't need because I just made some. Yummy!
Love,
Anita
