Greg & Kris' Excellent Desert Adventure

A picture of our hosts.....Ron and Sue.
We actually began our weekend the evening before, but we forgot the camera back at the house. Ron and Sue took us to see The Phoenix Suns play The Golden State Warriors at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. This is a beautiful open air arena, which is primarily used for tennis. But occasionally they have concerts and this was the second time for the NBA exhibition game to take place here. We had fantastic seats, mid court, mid level. The weather was a balmy 86 degrees, a perfect night for an outdoor event like this. The Suns lost, in the last few minutes, but it was a fun game to see. And of course, Ron and Sue knew half the people in the arena, so there was constant waving and phone calls from other areas in the stadium. Cheryl Miller was doing the TNT interviews, and she walked up and chatted to the people in front of us, and her brother Reggie was announcing. After the game, we picked up a pizza and ate it alfresco at Ron and Sue's, still enjoying the warm night air in the desert.
The following morning, while drinking coffee by the pool, Ron asked us if we would rather go out to breakfast, or eat a little breakfast at the house, and then go on an adventure? Well, we are always up for an adventure, so we ate, and showered, and packed some snacks (okay, Sue packed snacks) and off we went on a THREE....HOUR....TOUR..............the weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed.....oh...oops...sorry, I was thinking about something else there for a minute. As we neared our destination, Ron began to point out some of the places of interest. We wound up at Salton Sea. And drove through little desert towns that were once bustling with summer tourism for the lake. However the lake is hardly used anymore, as it has become somewhat polluted. But it is an enormous body of water, that runs all the way to Mexico. We were laughing and pointing out all of the places where we could get a bang up deal on some lake front property.

Here's one that caught our eye.....Large lake front home, with open floor plan. Great unobstructed views from every angle. Needs some TLC and will be move in ready.......

Comes with ski boat. Guest cottage in back, with tire swing!! Well, okay, you need to find some rope and a tree and hang the tire swing...but you get the idea.
After we looked at properties on the lake, Ron pulled his truck off the road onto the open desert and stopped. He pointed out a golf course, and then proceeded to get out of the car to show it to us. Before we realized what was going on, he was in the back of big red, and driving his golf cart off the ramps! We thought he had brought that so we could go bouncing around to look at the lake!!
Here I am standing in front of the Side WinderCountry Club! We were howling!!!!
I mentioned that I needed to go potty, and Ron said, never fear.........and pointed thataway!!!!
Well thank goodness we were there on Sunday and not Tuesday at 1:00!!!!!

This was a hoot. Sidewinder Sam was buried along one of the holes for not replacing his divot!
Ron had packed his "rock" clubs for us to use. We played all nine holes, and had an absolute ball! Ron is recovering from back surgery, but he was swinging the club pretty darn well. And Greg played well too. Sue and I did surprisingly well for not having played in ages. She had all sorts of cold drinks, and snacks, and Ron drove us all over the course, so I didn't have to be on my achy-breaky foot too much. It was just fun, fun, fun! A perfect, warm and sunny day on the golf course. A different kind of course, but a golf course nonetheless!
Here we are after we finished our game. Greg put the camera on the golf cart and ran in for the photo. A little off center, but I liked it. We were hot, sweaty and dusty, but off we went back to Palm Desert for a delicious lunch at the Firehouse. Thank you Ron and Sue for a fantastic adventure and a wonderful weekend!!!!!

Hey Mom, last night when I was going through those pictures, I found some of you and Dad & Ron and Sue and Randy and Anita that were pretty cute from a Big Bear weekend in 1986!

Always a good time when the Grovers are around. Laughing is good for the soul and I think our souls are doing pretty darn good now. Tell Katie that we sure did use that outhouse!
Can't wait for our next adventure!
Love SUE

Yep, like Sue said, laughing is good, and we sure DID use that outhouse. We "hovered" over the seat, and that worked. It was actually quite clean, as far as outhouses go!!!!

I LOVED this tour down memory lane, beleive it or not I used to waterski out there in the 70s.....you never had to worry about anyone drowning out there cause the FLOAT with that much salt in the water...too bad its all but abandoned, and am I GLAD I never bought a place out there....lol.
