Friday Finds

Hello!  I can't believe I haven't blogged since Tuesday.  I don't know where time goes, but it sure is flying lately.  This Sunday is Blog Sugar, and we have a full weekend of fun planned!  Tomorrow our friends Holly and Tammy arrive!  The weather has turned dreadfully hot again this week, but the weekend is promised to be much cooler!
I have had some fun poking around in my favorite haunts lately and have brought home some fun little treasures.  This red lunch box with hinged lid is one of them.
Several months back when Mr. G and I were up in Big Bear at my Mom's cabin, there was a cabin down the way that had sold, and they were selling EVERYTHING!  I bought dozens of old books for pennies.  One was a ledger written by a Southern farmer in the 1930's.  It is so interesting to read.
I bought several others, mainly for the color of them to use in decorating.  This one interested me for some reason.
Sorry, couldn't get it rotated!  I found this tag inside, months later.

Purchased in England at Harrod's for 25 pounds.  But there is no date on the tag.  This is a first edition, and in good shape.  I couldn't find the current worth online though.  I bought several others that were from the same period of time.  They have wonderful illustrations.  One afternoon it was so nice outside, that I took my little plaid blanket and had a picnic on the back lawn and looked through these books.
I have a million things to do today.  One of which is,  my very first EVER brow waxing!!  That's right folks, I have never waxed!  I pluck though, so don't be thinking I have a unibrow!!  But I thought I would go visit my daughter Gennifer's best pal Kelly, who has her esthetician's license and works out of her Mom's house.   From there I need to do a power shopping while Noah is in school to see if I can find something new to wear for Blog Sugar.
I hope everyone is enjoying the changing of the seasons wherever you may live.  The changes here in So. California are subtle but they are coming.  The mornings and evenings are just beautiful. I think I am probably one of the few who loves it when the day light hours shorten.  I find driving up to my house in the evening light, with the soft glow of lights seen through my windows, to be very comforting.  And I become a cooking fool when the weather changes!  I want to cook all the time!  I love to snuggle up with a quilt and a good book, or some yarny project.  And soon, my favorite thing, there will be crackling fires in the fireplace nearly every night to enjoy.  The changes happen much slower here where I live, but they are coming, and I love it!
Have a great weekend, and I will be back on Monday with my Blog Sugar highlights, and my weekend with Holly and Tammy!!

I feel the same way about it getting dark early. I now officially want to have a private reading picnic in my back yard (if it ever stops raining here). Have fun this weekend!

You do find the best things out that way. We have to scour and scour tons of junk to find treasures like these.....

So...let it begin. First, the brow and then....well, eeeks, let me be the first to tell you about the lip. or that stray on the chin. Not to worry, you have a couple of years still.

Have a great weekend.

You find the greatest things! Have fun getting your brows waxed. I was going o get a manicure but then I broke one of my fingernails so I just cut them all really short. Saved myself $20. See you in 24 short little hours!

What lovely finds, especially the books. I adore books and am especially drawn to old books. I hold them and wonder at who it was who read them, what they were like, where they lived. Silly, huh? And I really love old books with inscriptions in them. I have one from 1895, given to a woman on Christmas Eve by her beloved husband. It thrills me! I'm so ready for fall, it was cooling nicely and yesterday and today we're getting higher temps and its so muggy. Have a wonderful weekend, have to browse further to find out about Blog Sugar.

I love the lunch pail.. I'll have to haul my hubby's parents tin picnic box out from under the Hoosier and photograph it.

Please explain to us out here in blogland what Blog Sugar is? It sounds awesome!

I am just like you during the cooler weather...cooking and baking. I think it is because it smells so good coming in from the cooler outside to those wonderful aromas...Mmmmm!
