"She Thinks We're Just Fishin'"

There is a Trace Adkins song out called "She thinks we're just fishin'" that I adore!  From the very first time I heard it, I have loved it.  It reminds me of our oldest granddaughter, Hannah.  When I sing it, and the line that says something like, "she's talkin' bout her ballet shoes...and kittens...."  I always insert the word chickens instead of kittens.  It reminds me of Hannah her Daddy.  Hannah and Geeps.  And me and my Dad too.  I get choked up every time I hear it!!!
Yesterday we went to my Mom's to celebrate birthdays in our family.  Greg's and my nephew Matt's too.  My cousin Lynn is in town for a few days as well, so it was a fun evening.  Jake had brought the girls fishing poles and secret bait....hotdogs!  Within minutes of casting, there was shouting and excitement!!
The looks on the kids faces are just priceless!  I LOVE this one below of Hannah.  She is SO excited!
Little Clairey got her first fishy too.
Her cousin Chad was very sweetly helping her.
Noah was over the moon to reel in this big guy!  The fish is hidden in front of Uncle Jake's shorts, but the look on Noah's face is adorable so I had to include it.
As always, the kids had a ball at Grandma GiGi's house on the water.  Hannah and her Geeps went for a little kayak ride.
My Mom set out a fabulous spread, as always.  Sub sandwiches from Guilianos in Gardena.  Chicken and lamb kabobs from Rosines. Her famous mac n cheese!   Salads and all the trimmings.
My cousin Lynn  was visiting from Seattle.  I have always had a special interest in Lynn.  She was the cousin I looked up to when I was little.  She is ten years older than me, and when I was a young girl, I used to love to go to their house and watch her fluff her bouffant hair, and get ready for a date her her boyfriend Rudy.  She shared a bedroom with her younger sister Nancy.  And they had a bathroom with a pretty pink shag rug and matching toilet lid cover, that I can still remember sitting on while watching Lynn get ready for a date in the bathroom.  A few years ago, my Mom and I met Lynn in Assisi, Italy where we had the good fortune to attend a real Italian wedding!!  Lynn's neighbor in Seattle had moved to Italy to study opera and met a man and fell in love.  Her Italian husband and family owned and operated a little Italian restaurant there in Assisi.  The wedding took place in a centuries old church, where the entire ceremony was in Italian.  It was fascinating, and beautiful and I will never forget it.  The reception was done in typical Italian fashion, with a 12 course meal served, taking the better part of a day to eat!!  And celebrate!  And drink wine!!!  It was truly a chance in a life time, and an experience I am so happy to have had.  Lynn retired this past March, and I am dying to go visit her in Seattle.  This is Lynn, with my brother David in the background, and little bit of my sweet Nana.
We sang Happy Birthday to the birthday boys, Greg and Matt.
I made a decadent chocolate cake for dessert.  (and I may have just had the last little bit of it straight out of the pan for breakfast!)
It was a fun time as always, out at my Mom's!  Thanks Mom!  And speaking of Italy, I really must dig up my Italy photos which have been put onto another hard drive here at the house, and share some of these with you.  I took literally hundreds and hundreds.  The architecture fascinated me.  I have hundreds of photos of doors and shutters alone.  To think that to most American's, OLD is New York City.  And New York City is beautiful, I will say!  I got to visit NYC shortly after 9/11, and had THE BEST trip in that fabulous vibrant city!  But old is Europe!  Oh my....some of the sights we saw in Rome, Venice, Florence....just amazing.   This was before I was a blogger, but I will dig those up and do an Italy post one day soon.
Ciao for now...............

My friend, Kris. I have one question... Is there always a party going on over at your house. I am always seeing such a wonderful gathering of happy people and smiles all around. But, the kids with the rods and bait are just the cutest. The simple joys of being a kid again.

You don't know me and I found my way onto your blog because I saw the title of this post on someone's blog roll...and had to have a look. The song grabbed me the first time I saw the video and I am truly smitten with it! What a delightfully simple, but deeply true song! It's the little things, isn't it? I'm going to go have a look around...but just had to say hi and tell you how much I love the song too! (Also love "Then They Do". Hugs, Annette

Oh Kris I LOVE that song too. Soo catching and cute. The grandkids all look adorable on their fishing adventure. Your mom's place is soo neat. What a wonderful place to live and visit. I can just imagine that wedding. How wonderful to have had that opportunity ~ your right those kind of things don't happen often. My youngest son and his wife are going to Italy in Oct. for their 10th wedding anniversary. They are just giddy at the prospect of it all. I bet your pics are gorgeous. Have a good week Kris!

Hey honey bunch. You have been having some good times and good food lately. Everything sounds so yummy, especially those tortilla banana thingies from yesterday. I'll have to remember to print that and try it.

Where's that afghan. Sit your arse down and finish it. I'm dying to see it. Okay, I guess there will be plenty of time for that when it gets cold. Sure wish it would hurry!

That song chokes me up too. I smiled when I saw you made chocolate cake since I just made choc cupcakes for the family tonight. I usually don't make desserts liket that, but I had a bee in my bonnet or something today. Thanks for visiting the new blog :)
