Stuffed Owl Pillow

Well, I went to Sew Funky yesterday at The Marriott in Riverside.  It was PACKED!!!  I mean, shoulder to shoulder, shuffling along, an inch at a time...PACKED!  Not my favorite scene.  I am a claustrophobe, and I did not like that one bit!  But, I did see some very cute things.  Most I cannot show because they are gifts.   I was making a purchase at one booth, and the lady said, I am one of your blog stalkers!  Meagan was her name.  Such a sweet lady.  She had a darling booth, with hand made things where I bought a gift for a dear friend of my daughter's who is having a baby soon.   Then, another lady whose blog I visited recently and asked a question regarding the Sew Funky show, she and I had a good chuckle when she called her friend over so we could laugh about how I wanted to have a blogging conference for the older set, the "Blue Haired Bloggers" as I had mentioned in an earlier post of mine.  The show was fun.  I saw lots of new things, and got some good ideas.  One booth had these beautiful owl pillows.  I kept picking them up, looking at them with my granddaughters in mind, then putting them down thinking that at 25 dollars a piece, I could certainly make some myself.
I had recently heard about another shop in downtown Riverside called Old Glory General Store that I wanted to see too.  After the Sew Funky show, I found Old Glory and spent a good hour looking in there.  It is a giant antique store, with many different vendors.  Fun stuff.  But too pricey for this picker!
When I got home, I took a brown grocery sak, and made a pattern for an owl pillow using a dinner plate to mark the curves.  I used some of my stash fabrics in fun feminine prints, and a little pink ball fringe, and made an owl pillow.
For her eyes (mine is a girl owl) I used two different sized buttons that I stitched together using black embroidery floss.  Then glued them.  I used a piece of yellow wool felt for her beak.  I love the ball fringe too.  But, this mock up owl, is only about half the size I want.  So later I will make another pattern and make more sizes.  But, she was kind of cute, and way cheaper than 25 dollars to make!
I didn't take a picture of the back, but the back is darker pink fabric.  Hannah and Clairey, what do you think?  Would you like owl pillows for your beds?

Your's is adore-a-ble. I so love the owl thing. I need to start sewing on my machine soon. I have a serger that has never come out of the box. Scared=e=cat. I have not a clue how to thread it, is the problem. I will make an effort to learn soon. I need to make me some owls. I do the same and look at things and then the price and knowing I could do that too. But, attending things like this are always great for getting ideas.

Gotta run... I'm avoiding packing up the car for the long drive home tomorrow. It has been weather perfect up here and quite enjoyable to be away.

Hey, you asked if my post was up by Santa Maria. Well, go a lot farther north!! I live in the Central Valley, about 2 hours south of Sonoma.

If ever you are up this way, let me know!

How fun. I hate crowds too though. I was thinking maybe it would be fun to have an older seasoned blogger thingy for those of us that live local at my house. Maybe after the holidays. That might be fun. Just casual and we could all share what we have learned and help each other out with whatever. Or just visit and meet face to face cause I always love that.

I agree with the others.. you're a-MAH-zing! I bet the lil girls will adore them, how could they not? I also am a bit of a claustrophobe and don't like shows that are overly popular. I like to go on off hours to avoid that.

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Adorable! You are so creative. I went to a craft sale yesterday. The weather was so wonderful for it. It is one of the bigger ones that we have. But I didn't come home and make anything. You are amazing!

So glad I found the owl pillow. You are right it is adorable, and certainly looks easy enough to make. They will look great on the girls beds. That is to funny you were recognized, must mean you are now famous. Better watch out for the paparazzi.

Aww, this is the sweetest pillow, ever!!

Cute owl Kris, it turned out great! AND so did the baskets. Happy fall to you...it's my fav time of year here as well. Loved the rainy day we had and looking forward to cooler days that should be here after this heatwave passes us by. At some point I think my daughter will want to learn to sew, too. I'm waiting to hear it fall from her lips one of these days. Gonna try your shepherd's pie. I haven't made English muffin bread for ages but it looks so yummy I'll have to make it soon. Stay cool!
