Weekend Recap

So how was everyone's weekend?  We didn't go to the lake because Mr. G worked on Saturday, but we had a nice relaxing weekend.   On Sunday we went to see this movie.
It was very thought provoking!  I think everyone should see it!!!  After the movie we tried out the new Five Guys Burger place that opened near us.  I was wanting Panera, but Mr. G talked me into trying this place.  It was SO good!  You get to pick your burger toppings and there is no charge for additional toppings.  I had mushrooms, my favorite!  They also have big barrels of peanuts in the shell for you to scoop up.  And the fries are so good, and they serve SO much.  One order is good for two to share.  Two thumbs up for Five Guys!
A few of you have asked about my chickens.  I still have them, but they are NOT producing eggs yet.  I am told that the average age for chickens to begin to lay is 6 months.  My three oldest are just now reaching 6 months, and the younger two are a few weeks behind them.  When I was at the feed store today I was talking to them about this, and they said that three of my breeds are actually slow to mature, and slower to lay.  So, I am not going to worry.  They are just now getting their full wattles and combs, so it shouldn't be long.  Here are some pictures I took this afternoon.

I hope I don't have to buy eggs for very much longer.  The new baby chicks come into the Feed Store in February.  I will be getting another 7 or 8 so that I can have an even dozen hens.
That egg you see in the nest box is a dummy egg.  It is supposed to show them what and where to lay!  See that hoe that I put up in the corner for a roost?   They all FIVE huddle together up there for the night.
Here are the wooden apple crates we bought last weekend in Oak Glen. These are from Los Rios Ranch.  I sure wish I had gotten more of them!
Lastly today, I wanted to show you the mailbox I got a long time ago.  It was black and rusty, and I actually had completely different plan for this, but that plan didn't work for me.  So I painted it in aqua and I hung it in my sewing room to hold some magazines and catalogs and my Joann's mailers.  I couldn't find the before picture anywhere.
I just love it hanging in my sewing room.  It is pretty and functional too.
That's it for me.  I am ready for bed.  See you soon.
XO  Kris

Hi Kris,
First, thanks for the nice comment you left me on my blog. Losing weight is so hard, that any encouragement I get I take gladly! =)

Second, I have been wanting to try five guys, everyone says its so good. Just haven't gotten around to it. But I will!

Third, you always have such great and crafty ideas. I wish I was crafty. I try to be but usually just doesn't work out.

Glad to here your chickens are doing well, my sister in laws all got the flu and she is losing them one by one.

Looks like a good movie, I loved fireproof.
Happy Monday Eve to you!

We went to 5 guys for the first time last weekend...and it was so good! I got mushrooms too and the cajun fries....we actually each got our own fries. Now we know, 1 bag is enough! It's a good thing the nearest one to us is over an hour away!

I have heard from family that the movie is a must see also.

I agree the apple crates are wonderful, what are your plans for them?

Love the idea for the mailbox. Great way to hid the flier's you want to keep but don't want laying around.

What wonderful hens, I haven't seen those with the white before. You are ambitious...a dozen!

Lesson learned at "Five Guys" - never eat the peanuts, you'll be too full for that great burger. This is the only place I'll eat fries as they are just too good to resist.

I just discovered Five Guys un Utah recently. LOVE IT!

What a fun use of a mailbox. I showed you the one I put on my patio but now I'm going to be on the lookout for another one I can put in the sewing room. Thanks for the inspiration.

And I too am curious as to what you are going to do with the apple crates. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be fabulous!

What a great idea for the mailbox!!! Love the color too! A Five Guys just opened near us too--I have yet to try it but I've only heard good things about it.

Your chickens are a very handsome bunch! They look better than I've ever seen them. I bet you get eggs in no time.

Love your mailbox idea!

I could not respond to you last night after the game ended. I tried! The "no" was responding to your question about whether hub is the Chief there. He thinks about retiring every day but is going to try for 30 years. He's at 26 now.

Okay, bye.

I bet you will be so excited when your girls finally lay their eggs! Five Guys is so dangerous for me... LOVE them! The mail box for your sewing room is darling.

To answer your question... We are moving to a nicer area that is closer to my kids' school. We are going to miss our old home but we are so excited to move into our new one!

I was just wondering about your chickens the other day too :) Thanks for updating :) When I worked at Stater Bros we had TONS (probably at least 4 pallets FULL) of those wooden crates.. I had people ask me all the time if they could purchase the crates.. We weren't allowed to sell them tho.. Who would have thought a wooden crate would be so difficult to get, yet so high in demand?! :)

I love the idea of having a mailbox inside. Very cute and I love the blue color on it. I've got to see that movie, my husband really wants to see it as well. I've been to Five Guys Burgers once. I loved it. The serving size of their fries is crazy!

Hope you have a good week. :)

Happy Monday Kris, Love getting caught up with you; I've heard great things about Courageous-I'll have to try to get to it. We have 5 Guys here and I enjoyed it,especially the peanuts but since I can't have the buns anymore hamburger places aren' that exciting. Now if we could just get In-n-Out here we'd be set and my man would be happy.
I thought of you when we stayed at the B&B on San Juan because they had chickens and roosters too but the roosters didn't crow until around 6:00am which is late compared to the roosters we once had who crow at 3:00am. I also love the mailbox-what a great idea.
Have a great evening.
Hugs, Noreen

WOW. You actually went to the movies. Good job. We haven't done that in a long time. We use to go all the time, but just haven't gotten there since THE HELP. I think that mailbox idea is just the cutest. I have to make me one of those. But, is that a CK catalog. I must see about finding out how to get my hands on one of those.

Well, I've been lazily napping all day long after a weekend of chores. I haven't even gotten dressed today. Bad, Kate, Bad, Bad, Kate. But, it felt good to just hang out today.

Off to get my arse kicked again by Pammy. She is a serious player unlike me who can't spell, but you know that. And I know you don't visit my blog for my spelling anyways.

Have a good week. I'll be around most.

Hi,
I have not heard of this movie. I love movies, so not sure why I haven't. Oh well, I'll have to check it out. Love your chicks! Still wondering if I would love to have some. My friend trie it. she loved them in the warm weather, but hated having to go out and feed in the winter. My son got hens earlier this year and it was quite a while before they started laying. I'll see how he fairs with them in the winter. Love your mailbox!
