Big Bear Weekend

We arrived in Big Bear Saturday morning and it was COLD!
Brrrrr!  What a silly look on my face! And there are all of those chins again!  The quilt I have wrapped around me is one of the first ones I ever made.  It is a Thimbleberries Sampler Quilt.  Each block represents a calendar month.  After we got the cabin warmed up a bit, we went to have lunch at our favorite place on the mountain.  Blanca & Pierre's.  Or as we call it, Blanca's.  Pierre no longer seems to be in the picture, far as we can tell.
Mr. G was wearing his Boise State shirt in preparation for going back to the cabin to watch the game.
We both had burgers.  I have to tell you, if you love a good burger, and you are in Big Bear, you MUST come to Blanca's to have one.  There are a few places where we have had what we call The Best Burgers anywhere!  Top of the list is a favorite place of ours called The Forks.  And also at Bass Lake, a lakeside lovely called Miller's Landing.  Definitely in our top three, is Blanca's!  These burgers are fabulous!
Mine with grilled mushrooms, and Mr. G's with grilled onion, mushrooms and bacon.
Blanca makes her own hamburger buns!  I'm telling you.  BEST burger on the mountain!  And if you love boysenberry pie, and apple dumpling, you are in the right place.  Blanca makes them all fresh every morning.  But hurry, they will be gone by noon.
After we ate, we took a little stroll over to Boulder Bay.  It was so pretty out!  Suddenly, a huge cloud bank came in and enveloped the entire Fawnskin side of the mountain.

Within minutes, the temperature dropped a good 15 degrees, and it looked like it was going to snow.
We stood out on the dock until I was a frozen to the bone.  We took a photo of another couple for them, and they took one of us.
It was cold and windy, and I only had a light weight sweater on with no jacket.  I did wear my nice warm cowl all weekend long.
We went back to the cabin for the Boise State game, where there was a lot of shouting and stomping going on.
I sat by the fire and crocheted.
And played Words With Friends.
Later that night, after a disappointing loss for Boise State, our daughter Gennifer and her family arrived.  We grilled burgers, (I know, we had them for lunch but that was all I brought up) and had boysenberry pie ala mode, and hot apple dumplings with caramel and ice cream.

The girls were excited and got to stay up a little bit late with us.
Then they went in to sleep in their roasty toasty room so we could have a fun day on Sunday in The Bear.
I put so many blankets on those beds, you can barely see the girls beneath the fluffy covers.
Come on back tomorrow to see what we did on Sunday.
Tootle Loo.
XO  Kris

The last time I was at Big Bear was a month before our first son was born. A little getaway before the baby and we had a great time. I would have loved one of those hamburgers since it was far too late to watch my weight!!

Best,
Bonnie

That's it... you are moving Big Bear up the list. It's now ahead of a Tulip Cruise in Amsterdam. One can dream, right. I mean who doesn't want a burger on a homemade toasted bun and then another for dinner, topped off with a slice of pie. What a FAB weekend. And to think I got to play WWF with you their, so I feel like a part of me was along. Those pictures of the clouds are stunning and the one of you two has Xmas Card written all over it. Better run now, I'm still jammied up and it almost 1pm.

Hi Kris, The scenery is so incredibly beautiful!!! Loved seeing the bugers; I am just now seeing many restaurants carry gluten free buns so those of us who can't usually have a true burger can partake. Your "first" quilt is beautiful-girl you sure know how to sew!! I love hand quilting and have only taken one machine quilting class; it is faster but I love to sit and stitch at night. Loved hearing about your Saturday. Have a great afternoon.
Hugs, Noreen

Oh Kris, how I would love to take a trip up to Big Bear. Haven't been up in a couple of years. Sooo pretty up there. The burger looks just heavenly....I think (from as much as I can see it) that I have that exact same entertainment unit in my family room! How funny huh? Small world...Is it solid Oak and super duper heavy? Anyway, sounds like a great day to me!

If it wasn't breakfast time I'd be heading for a burger right now. That looks so darn mouth watering. Love the misty look, but oh how cold! The older I get, the less I love the cold. Sure do love the looks of the beautiful white stuff though.
