Herbal Remedies

Good Morning!  Pammy Sue...this is for you.  My friend Dawn over at Creative Cain Cabin   is a big
believer in herbal remedies before using Western Medicine.  I have a tendency to get bronchitis following a bad cold.  It seems to get worse every year that I get older!  I was willing to try Dawn's suggestion to see if I could ward it off.  Dawn told me what to get, so Greg and I ran right out to GNC to purchase the exact thing she told me to get.  They were closed, so we found them at Sprouts.  I was able to find the brand she recommended as well.  It is called NOW.  Orange label, purple top!
I already take Biotin daily, for hair and skin.  I take a daily vitamin.  And MSM for joints.

The activated charcoal was suggested by Dawn to use as well.  I began that treatment a couple of days ago.  You take the charcoal powder if you can find it, and if not, crush the pills, and pour it onto an old cloth you don't mind throwing away, or several layers of paper towels.  Wet the towel with hot water, and lay across chest before going to bed.  I put another clean towel over the charcoal towel, and a tight sports bra over that.  This is supposed to induce coughing and and help to relieve and reduce the chest congestion.  Did I cough?  YES!  Did it help?  I don't know if this helped, or it was coincidental that what I had was on the way out. But I do know this.  I had the start of bronchitis.  I know what that is.  I have had it many times.  I had very painful breathing, and it was on the way to bronchitis.  I do not have it now.  I am better.  So, for me, it worked!!!  I will continue to take the NAC and Vit C until it is gone.  Here is what you do:   Take 2 tablets NAC and 2 tablets Vit C FOUR times daily!!  With lots of water, and you will need the water, because these are big tablets!!  NAC supports lung health.  And we all know what Vit C does.  I also took Zinc right away when I came down with the cold.  It was two weeks ago today that I got sick.  I feel WAY, WAY better!!!!  Dawn also told me to look for an ointment called Skinners.  I could not find it, but am still looking.  It is  used like a Vicks Vapor would be used.  I did used my Vicks ointment.  I put it on the bottoms of my feet and then put socks on.  It helps with the coughing, and it WORKS!!  I have heard of this remedy for children too.   Can't hurt, and in my case, it sure helped!!!  Ask my husband, he will tell you!!
While at my local health food store, I inquired about something Dawn told me to try for HOT FLASHES!!  It is called Pro Yam.  They did not have this exact one, but they had several Yam creams.  This one by Kokoro, called Balance Cream.  It was the one that the lady at Sprouts suggested and said she has rave reviews from women!!   I did talk to my favorite Pharmacist about using this, my son in law, Jake.  He said he would do some research on it for me.  I will talk to my Dr. when I go.  But I am using it.  It does contain natural progesterone.  Which in essence, is hormone replacement therapy.  I took Premarin for a year after having my hysterectomy, and then stopped after all of the bad press regarding it's relationship to cancer.  But my hot flashes are so miserable, I am willing to try this.  Guess what?  Not a single flash since I began using the cream!
WIND...we have WIND today.  Many of you will be getting snow drifts soon.  We, here in Southern California, are getting leaves drifts.

I did a quick walk thru the grove to see if there were any trees down, and there aren't.
But I found this.
And this.
I'm not even going to fix anything until this wind stops blowing!  Or clean the pool.
I have my Christmas dishes washed and in the cupboard.  And the very beginnings of the holiday spirit coming into our house.
Lastly, I got a call from a friend last night, who knows a lady that reads my blog, and would like to order two cowls from me.  Jackie, I wanted to show you the other color of cowl I have in stock now.  I am going to purchase more yarn today for my cowls, but wanted to show you the other color.  I assume you want either the tweed or a neutral color like this Bone, for your cowls?
I can also do another color if  you prefer.  But call me soon so I can get going on them.
Remember this little bag that I got a while back as a freebie at a local mall?  I have shown it before.  But I will show you again what I did.  I just made ruffles and tacked them to the front of the canvas bag to hide the printed logo.
Now I carry this tote bag around with me all the time.  It is perfect for a small project to fit into, and I take it with me wherever I go to work on it.
So don't toss your scraps!  They can do so many fun things!
My Bloomies are in full production.  For now, a few, and later I will show all of my Christmas colors.
That red one is a brick red.  I also have a true red for Christmas.
Guess what this soft fuzzy fleece is going to be?
Jammy pants for MOI!   I better scoot.  I have so much to do today.  And I am still trying to pace myself so I don't relapse.
If you live in my area....be careful out there driving today.  It is wicked windy!!
XO  Kris

My husband would recommend those products too, he takes a lot of natural remedies as well. Glad you are feeling better. You are a busy bee, no time to get sick girl!

I do the natural remedy thing too. Although, now I don't get Broncitius or even really get sick. I take lots of that...like the zinc and C and got a tiny cold recently and it never even got 'real'. It all works.

Love your idea for the tote...just fantastic...I will be using that when I find the time.

Tell me about this wind. Our neighbors tree branches came crashing down on their cars last night. Our yard is a mess but I am not cleaning either until it is done. Glad you are on the mend.

Hi Kris,

So glad those herbal remedies have helped. Bronchitis is nothing to mess around with. We were really freakin out last night as the wind became very strong here in the High Desert. Nothing damaged but never seen anything like it before.

Smiles & Sunshine,

Debbie

Such great info! I always learn so much from you. How did you get to be so wise? You always have the best ideas. Hope the wind calms down, we were supposed to get rain today but it passed right by me.

So glad you are feeling better and the hot flashes are gone. Woo-hoo!! You would never know you are sick with all the things you are doing and making. The tote is just to cute, and ruffle was just the trick. What a mess the wind made of your yard:( I agree wait till it's over to clean it up, no sense in doing it twice:)

My goodness, that's quite the get well list. I will have to keep these all in mind. The only solution I have for the flashes, is get old. With a total hysterectomy at 47. It was like over night b.s., ok, that's a little harsh. But, now nothing. So, they do get better is all I can say.

I can't wait to see those new "Pie Pants" all done up. Aren't they fun to make and soooooo simple too.

So, what's Paula cooking up tonight? I'm sure it has butter as the main ingredient.

Hi Kris, I was so worried about you because we heard about your wind and the fire danger. We have those snow drifts you were talking about-woke up to 7" this morning and it's been snowing since. Two more storms are expected as well-guess I need to work on my holiday ornaments. I will have to check out the NAC supplement-cause I get bronchitis too from my asthma. Glad these are working for you-I'm always running to the natural remedies. Get enough rest as well. Vicks does work-I've used it since childhood and tried it on the soles of my feets as well.

Hi Kris,
I am so bad at taking pills. Bought vitamins and joint pills, but rarely take them. Don't know why I'm such a naughty girl. Love your dishes! Also love what you did with the bag. Your flowers are cute, cute too. There has been horrible winds, up to 100 m.p.h. just above the S.L area. That's about 45 miles from my home. Luckily we didn't get it in UT county. Your cowls look cute, would love to see you modeling one.

I'm so glad you're on the mend! As a fellow bronchitis sufferer, I know how bad it can get. We saw on the tv news the wind problems you're having down there! Looks like you got hit pretty bad. We have the famous "East Wind" here and suffer from some pretty bad stuff.

Can't wait to see your spotted jammies!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

That wind is wild. Stay safe. I bet it's scary! LOVE your Christmas dishes that you have out. We do Vick's on the feet, and I tell everyone about it. I swear it's a miracle cure. It's amazing. We are really big on vitamins at our house too. We take lots of them. When I slack and don't take them, my body tells me. I can tell a huge difference.

Hope your day is wonderful! xoxo.

I'm also glad you did not have any major wind damage. I saw the problems many are having there with the wind on the news tonight!
