First Snow In Big Bear

We were up in Big Bear over the weekend.  There was a forecast for a "dusting" of snow.  But there was a lot more than a dusting.  It was beautiful up there!
This is my Mom's cabin.
This is the cabin that my family had when my kids were growing up.  It is only a stone's throw from her current place.
That is the backside there.  It was on two lots, so it was a great place for the whole group of us to go.  The cabin was small, but so cozy.  We were talking about the many times we would take a Suburban load of teenagers up there and they would ski all day, and I would cook dinner, and they ate and ate and ate!!!  We  had some great times at that cabin.  My parents bought it, and then did a lot of  upgrades to it. So many fun memories in that cabin!
Our oldest daughter and her family went with us this weekend.  It was the first time for Hannah and Claire to really play in the snow.  They loved it!
They built their first snowman with their Daddy.

When we were in town yesterday, Gennifer and Jake found a great deal on some snow bibs for the girls. They each got pink bibs, and came right home to put them on and try them out.  They are the cutest snow bunnies I have ever seen, for sure!!!
We had some fun inside the cabin too.  Hannah brought her new Zingo game, and got a kick out of beating Geeps every time!!!
Hannah brought her new make up kit that she bought with birthday money.  Geeps was happy to help her apply some lip gloss.
Saturday night, we had offered to stay at the cabin with the girls so that Gennifer and Jake could go out to eat at Sweet Basil.  We went out and got a pizza from Village Pizza and had a nice evening watching a movie with the girls.  Geeps popped us some popcorn too!!
Sunday morning we had a big breakfast and a roaring fire!  It was 9 degrees!!!
I had the girls set the table and that kept them busy while the bacon cooked and we waited with bites of a cinnamon roll.
Greg had to have a fried egg sandwich.
After breakfast we bundled up and headed to the Alpine Slide.  Jake took turns taking each of the girls down the slides on tubes.
It has been so cold, that in addition to the natural snow fall, they have been blowing it onto the slopes for a very good base.   Hannah was raring to go, and loved sliding down the slopes with her Dad.  But Claire was not too sure if she wanted to try it.  First she had to watch for a while.  While watching, I captured this darling picture of her and Geeps.
I am going to have to frame this one for sure!!!
After some watching, Clairey decided she would give it a go too.
I didn't get any good shots of them coming down, but this one, Jake was waving, so you can pick them out.
They both loved it, and can't wait to go back and do it again.  After the tubing, we went to The Village to walk around.  We always start at my favorite shop, The Copper Q.
They have such pretties inside!  They do cooking demos on the weekends, and have classes, as well as a delicious coffee, lunch and dessert bar.  We have gotten several things there, and are always happy with them.
We strolled up and down the Village streets, popping in and out of shops and trying a few things on.
What do you think?  A good look for her?  Here is a better photo of Gennifer.
We found a new shop downtown that looks like it will be a fun place for the kids.  It is an ice skating rink.  Made with a synthetic floor, which feels like ice, but isn't.  There were two kids in there playing ice hockey, and we went in to watch for a while.  I think the girls wanted to play then and there, but we promised we would come back with Noah and some friends, and rent it out for a couple of hours for them.  Their prices are fantastic!!!
We popped into all of our favorite shops.  Hardly buying a thing!  Gennifer and Jake did find the girls their snow clothes in town.  I saw lots of things I wanted, but refrained, buying only a birthday gift for a friend.  I did kind of like this???!!!!  What do you think?
We walked until we were hungry again.  Ending up back in front of The Copper Q, where the tree lined street was stunning, and the shimmering leaves were falling everywhere like snow.
We went to our favorite place on the hill, Blanca & Pierre's.  Filled our tummies, and then took a walk around Boulder Bay Park before heading back to the cabin.
Gennifer and Jake and the girls packed up and headed on down the hill, and Greg and I did a few things and went on down shortly afterwards.  Actually, just as the sun was setting.  It was so beautiful!!!  I came home with a  horrible head cold, that seemed to hit me like a ton of bricks on the way home!!!  Today I shall rest, since Noah has no school.  We are declaring it a "Jammies Day" and staying in.
Thanks for coming along on our weekend up in The Bear!!!
XO  Kris

I'm so sorry you're feeling yucky again. Not fun. Looks like everyone had a great time. The only thing I could think about when I saw that knitted face mask was, "That would be so gross when my nose was all runny from the cold." Yup, that's basically how my mind works.

Hi Kris, I'm hoping that your jammie day will help you kick the cold to the curb! I loved seeing the cabin and the little ones-my girls had pink bib overalls too when they were little. Big Bear looks like quite a fun town to visit. We woke up today to temps lower than 9 degrees but hopefully this week will warm up. It is so cold here though. Stay warm today and have lots of hot tea.
Hugs, Noreen

Oh that looks like fun! Don't be mad but I might be in love with your husband :) He looks/sounds like such a sweetheart!!!

We had a touch of snow last week but it was in the form of a nor'easter--it snowed and snowed all day but not a flake stuck anywhere.

I think Jake needs some boots! I can't believe that it was so cold in Big Bear and that you got some snow. We went to our cabin in MI this past weekend and it was in the 60's! Unheard of! The snow is flying today now that we're back in WI now, thanks for sending it our way. :-) It looks like you had a wonderful weekend. The picture of Hannah playing board games is really cute and reminds me of all the games we play at the cabin. Looks like great shopping and fun activities for all seasons there too. Awesome! I hope you feel better soon.

I enjoyed this post Kris, probably because while we are experiencing some hot weather and bush fires, it is snowing and cold your way :)

I have never seen or touched snow in real life. Maybe one day I will get the chance. It does snow in a couple of places in Australia, in fact a few weeks ago we had a cold blast that produced a small amount of snow in nearby towns in the hills!

Have a nice day :)

xx

Such fun memories you are making for the little girls! I love Big Bear too, and I've never even been there. That is a very sweet picture of Geeps & Claire.

Now be honest, did you start that WWF game with me, or did Noah do it again? Hee-hee. I love to play with you, however it happens!

Big Bear looks like the perfect spot to have family fun no matter what season it is, but the snow makes it extra pretty, Kris!

NINE degrees? Good grief! It was just 106 a few weeks ago back at home, right? Fun photos! I used to visit a cabin at Wrightwood in my youth...great memories of those times. Feel better! Hugs, A.

I think I've mentioned that a weekend in Big Bear was our last outing as a couple before our first son was born. It was in mid-April and there was snow on the ground! I love that photo of "Geeps" being beat at Zingo!!

Best,
Bonnie

We here in Ohio haven't had any real snow fall to speak of. Our days are colder and the crops are just about off of all the fields. Boring Ohio, as usual. Kinda amazing how awhile back you were enduring sweltering heat and now can enjoy family time without sweating yourself silly. Big bear is amazing, have never been to California and probably never will. My youngest has been to San Diego and loved it from the moment she stepped off the plane. Good luck with your shop and sales. I know it can keep one busy, much work and fun when some profits start rolling in. Have a good weekend. Thanks for taking us along with you this last trip.
