Ducey's New Brother

We got some unexpected bad news this week.  Greg's cousin Cory had passed away after a very short illness.  Yesterday was his funeral.  It was a lovely service.  Cory's sister Carole had expressed concern over the fact that no one wanted to take Cory's beloved Lab, Dusty.  I could see Greg's wheels spinning, and after the service, Greg told Carole that we would take Dusty.  Carole was so relieved.  She didn't want Dusty to have to go to someone that Cory didn't know, or worse, to the pound.  I think Cory would be very pleased to know that his dog will live here with us.  It was a little bit crazy when we got home to introduce our Wheatie to him.  Ducey wanted to make sure that Dusty knew who was boss, and who lived here first!  He worked hard all night to establish dominance, even though Dusty could have taken him down with one swift whip of his powerful tail.  We took them for a brisk walk, and then, eventually, they settled   Dusty slept on the floor right next to our bed, next to me, and Ducey took his normal spot at the foot of the bed.  This morning, they are both much calmer.
Meet our new boy, Dusty.
He is a beautiful, healthy six year old Chocolate Lab.  We had two labs, and they grew  up together here.  A yellow named Tucker, and a chocolate, named Sally.  You can't beat a Lab!!
Dusty appears to have had some training.  He is well mannered, and performs simple commands.  For a treat, or a pat on the  head.
We are hoping that Ducey and Dusty will be good friends.  They are the same age, which is a good thing.
He is a very BIG boy!  And he is strong as an ox.   We are heading up to Big Bear in an hour or so.  Should be interesting! But we are bringing Drew and Diana and Erika, so we will have helpers and dog walkers.  Supposed to snow tomorrow.  Woo-Hoo!!!
Happy Day folks....see you in a few days.
Woof!
XO  Kris and the Double D's (Ducey and Dusty, that is)

Oh Kris, I love your new dog. You know I am a Lab lover. My Jack would love Dusty! I think they will grow to love each other and actually keep each other company. I've been wanting another dog but I'm trying to hold back, at least 'til Spring. Have a great weekend.

While I care about your loss of your cousin, I am so glad that you are willing and able to introduce Dusty into your family, Kris...a special way of honoring the love you have for your cousin. I was just able to catch up on your last few holiday posts and thank you for including us in your family celebrations. I enjoyed them and especially am happy for you for all the love that shines through each story...the mice, lazy susan, and bottle toppers...Happy New Year, to you and yours, Kris!!! May you safely enjoy some snow :) xx from Gracie

You guys are simply the best; but a lab-who could resist! What a wonderful thing to do; I know that Ducey and Dusty will settle into together and probably be best buds before you know it. That is what happened with our old dog Reggie-he belonged to my sister but when she was near the end of life, we told her we'd take him. He and Sadie became best friends.
Hope you have fun at the cabin and get some snow.
Hugs, Noreen

Kris,

I am so sorry for your loss and so thrilled to see that youve brought Dusty home. It warms my heart. With my moms recent death we too took in all her doggies and have always considered them ours.
Have fun in Big Bear this weekend.

It is a beautiful thing you are doing. Dusty looks like he is going to be okay though it must be a difficult adjustment for a dog to lose its master. Your wonderful family will be the best substitute.

Who could resist that handsome face and those appealing eyes?! He must be missing his Master terribly but he's landed on all fours with such a loving home to continue his life in, that's for sure.Very, very sorry for your loss. We're still awaiting the funeral of my friend here - who would believe that the festive season would hold up such an event but it has.
Have a good week, Kris. x
