Hello From Big Bear

Hidey Do.  I am up in the pines.  All by my little lonesome.  And LOVING it!!!  I packed a bag yesterday morning, and off I went.   As always, it is gorgeous up here.  Clear blue skies, and about 80 degrees.  Yesterday I went to the  yarn shop in town, and even though they were closed, the nice lady was working around the shop, and she let me in to browse as long as I wanted.  I wound up getting some  yummy yarns in DK weights to make more flowers.
I have pretty  much decided to make an afghan with these flowers.   I still have a lot more to make though.
On my way home from the yarn shop, I stopped at a feed store that I have always wanted to stop in on.  They were fantastic.  And they have Buff Orpingtons.  I am going to get a couple when I come back down the hill.  IF, I come back down the hill, that is.  (I'm just kidding.  Kind of...maybe...sort of....)
I popped into the market and picked up a rotisserie chicken, some hummus and wheat thins, and a cantaloupe, and cream for my coffee, and some donuts, and back to the cabin I went.  I spent the rest of the day playing with my yarn.  Oh, I also got this paint by number to do.
I remember when I was little, that my two Great Aunts, Emma and Ella, did paint by numbers.
I slept pretty good, for being here alone for the first time ever.  Woke up to a beautiful sky, and sat out on the back deck to have my coffee and donuts.

I decided to take a little break from the flowers and started a knitted dishcloth with a bear paw design on it.  I love the yarn, and the pattern too.  But I got about half way with it today and dropped some stitches, and then just couldn't stand it when I noticed that there was a gap that didn't belong.  I frogged it!!
After I showered, I headed out to do some thrifting down in Big Bear City.   Below is the stained glass in the front door of the cabin.
I found several vintage sheets, all in perfect condition.
A cute basket.
Not too much out there today.  Came back down the road, and stopped off at Boulder Bay Park.
Passed the American Flag, and took a picture.
Said hello to Louie The Bear.
Sat down on a bench and just enjoyed the warm sun, and sights.
A pair of Mallards flew overhead.
As I was walking back to my car, I could smell the hamburgers from our favorite place, just next door, Blanca's.  I was tempted to go have one, but instead went back to the cabin and made some lunch.

Rotisserie chicken, fresh melon and blueberries, red pepper roasted hummus and wheat thins.  Mmmmm!!!
Look at the mess I have  here on the table!!!!!

It's a happy mess!!!  I have been having a terrific time.  I really needed this.  My husband is on his way up now.  He called and asked if I was ever coming back home????  I said I didn't know.  So he is coming up here!
The sun is setting on Big Bear, and it is so warm and pretty tonight.
Happy Friday!!
XO  Kris

Beautiful pictures. We have a place in Tahoe and it is so relaxing to go and sit on the deck...I love looking out at the water with a good book.
I LOVE the vintage sheets you found. Do you use them or do some sort of crafting with them? I have been interested in all of the hoop art (I think that is what it is called) I am seeing. I thought it would be fun to wrap a hoop with vintage sheets or towels.
Have a wonderful time!

Sometimes a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do and it sounds like it suits you perfectly and you're having a 'rare' time to yourself, as we say over here. It's funny how only one person can generate such a mess, isn't it? Welcome to my world!Keep enjoying your 'me' time.xxx

Sometimes we all need a little alone time and I'm so glad you have a beautiful place to go. Wish I were close enough to give you a hug. Offer still stands if you want to get a little farther away. Would love to have you anytime.

Honestly this all sounds like heaven Kris!!! I just got back from Martha's Vineyard and I was there for two days before my Hb and it was so nice and I could eat my favorites, shop and knit and read and walk all on my own time. I think we ladies need this way more then we let ourselves. I'm so happy you are having a good time.

I am so glad you got away to a place you love. Being by yourself is so healing isn't it? Glad you shopped for yarn, that is pretty healing, too! Big Bear is your oasis in a storm, breath that beautiful fresh air and enjoy the peace you feel when you are there. Next time I am coming with you!

Hi Kris. Enjoy your getaway. Looks and sounds ideal.
I love your flowers. Maybe you could take a look at another blog. She had flowers like you make. Fun to see what she did with hers. The blog is 20 North Ora. Blessings, Becky

Just a NICE, calm day. Sounds wonderful. Your lunch looked so fresh and good, and you probably felt a lot better afterwards than you would have if you'd eaten that burger and fries. Look at that table piled with yarn! Love it!
