LEAN TURKEY BURGERS W/ STEAMED VEGGIES

I should have taken a picture with all of the ingredients I put in the turkey burgers, but I didn't.
Start with lean ground turkey, I used about 1 1/2 pounds here. 1 whole egg to bind. Add a pound of fresh, roughly chopped mushrooms, a couple splashes of worcesteshire (sp?) sauce, a small handful of parmesan cheese, a big handful of chopped fresh baby spinach, salt and pepper, garlic, and if you like, onion to taste. I used some dehydrated onion. Form into fairly large patties. I got 10 out of this. Grill, using no fat. These cook pretty quick, so watch them. I served them on 1 slice of toasted dark rye bread, spread with fancy mustard and topped with another handful of fresh baby spinach. Steamed veg on the side. Delish! I haven't figured the WW value in points, but it is low. Probably 4 for the patty, and 1 for the bread. 1 point for your veg, as it has no fat on it, and so for 6 points, a very filling dinner.

It looks delicious. I should give it a try.

Good for you for getting back on the health band wagon. It's heard to start back up after time off. I only stepped off for a couple weeks over the holidays and getting back into the swing is KILLING me.

That sounds great - and the spinach and mushrooms would keep it moist - always a problem with ground turkey. I must say that I also grind my own turkey - the stuff in the store is ground so fine - I buy turkey tenderloins and pulse them in the Cuisinart until they are ground - it easy and gives a lot better texture to the ground turkey. Actually I grind my own beef also - buy a piece at Costco and then grind and weigh it and freeze in small packages. It is leaner and again I grind it a little coarser.

Katie,
I don't know if you happened to see Oprah yesterday, but she was spot on!! And those of us who have "weight issues" don't magically leave them behind once we have lost our weight. Unfortunately, it is a life long battle. I know exactly what I need to do, I just stopped doing it. And with my knee being bad lately, lack of exercise has made it all the harder. But I am hoping to get back on track. If you check in on Mondays, and go to Red Geranium's link on my page, you will find all sorts of encouragement.
Helen...I am going to do that next time I go to Sam's. I have a Cuisinart and it would be easy to grind my meat. Thanks!!!

Looks yummy, when I'm out of dinner ideas I should just look at your blog, maybe you should do a weekly dinner planner along with a grocery list every Monday. I think that's a great idea, I think I'll check back next Monday, thanks Kris, I appreciate it ;)

Hi ladies,
For tonight...hmmm, I was thinking about having the left over turkey mushroom burgers and ham and bean soup.
I have actually thought about doing a blog just for cooking. But I think it is easiest to combine all of my interests in one blog.
I will do the tortellini soup one night soon and doc it with photos for a post. That is a good comforting meal! And lo cal too.
I did make the chocolate muffins today...can I just say....HEAVEN!!!

OOO, ya, I am with Kristi and Maryrose for the Monday Meal Plan Post!! I'll check back Monday, and I would also love an itemized grocery list too so I can easily shop for the needed ingredients in my weekly meals.

I should have tried those leftover burgers when they were still around. They looked so good!
