Breaking Out My Bread Robot

I have been disgruntled lately at the rising cost of groceries! It seems like every week the cost goes up and up. I paid 4.47 for a loaf of our favorite sandwich bread the other day. I can go through an entire loaf of bread in one fell swoop by making grilled cheese sandwiches for the two men of our house! Not that dusting off my bread machine will prove to be a huge money saver, but today I did buy fresh yeast and bread flour, and proceeded to bring my big ol' bread machine out for some of our favorite home made bread. My Dad bought me this machine, I am guessing about 10 or more years ago. Right when the bread machine craze began. I used to keep it out all the time and bake bread frequently, but as of late, it has been in the garage carefully covered and brought in only when I am making a loaf of bread. But it has been a long time since that fresh baked bread smell has been in the house, and it was heavenly. Here he is... my bread machine robot. Looks like R2D2 doesn't he? I probably butchered that name, as I am NOT a fan of Star Wars!!!
Fired him up, and he got to work right away forming the dough into this perfect round ball.
And a few short hours later, I was pulling this tasty treat from the oven, and we served it warm with our chicken and pasta salad. YUMMY!!!!! Can't wait to have some toasted tomorrow morning!

While the bread was baking, I made a batch of lemon bars. We have a HUGE crop of lemons this year. These were oh so puckery and delicious! Bon Appetit!

Nothing like fresh bread out of the oven. I have 2 sisters in law who are on a bread kick lately and I have been the recipient of it. YUMMM!

Wish I lived closer and could come and relieve you of some of your lemons. I love lemon bars and fresh lemonaid.

JOe would be so jealous to know that you made homemade bread! He always begs me to ask my mom or his mom to borrow the bread machine! Yummo! Those lemon bars look delicious too! I might do what Genn does and come shopping in your groves...Sammy is obsessed with oranges, and lemons in my water sound delicious too :)

Tawny,
Bring Sammy over any time and let her pick her own oranges. She would love that. I hope you are feeling okay.

My Grandma used to make bread all the time. Her favorite was raison bread, and mine was potato bread. There is nothing like walking into a house with freshly made bread. Mmmm. Your's looks delish!

Kristi,
The bread I made yesterday was actually a recipe of your Grandma's. It is for English Muffin bread. And I believe it is our favorite for toast!!! I also favor the potato bread, and I have a whole wheat I love too. I figure I am making it for a fraction of the cost compared to a loaf of bread in the market. The down fall, I eat it! Whoa......

Kris, I love the bread machine. My mom's broke and I think I will give her mine. She loves to make bread, and like you, I love to eat it (with lots of butter)
I miss you.

Hmmmm homemade bread. YUM!

I am laughing at the picture of your ancient bread machine though. That thing has got to be older than ten years. I can remember coming home from school at the Turquoise house and seeing that on the counter making fresh bread. I didn't know that Papa got it for you.

Your lemon bars look good too. I need to come to the grove and fruit shop. Got any avos I can have???

Genny, I bet you're right, it has got to be about 18 years old! Sheesh....we have been here for 17 years, so it is ancient. I do tend to hang on to things, don't I??? Yes, my Dad had gotten my Mom one, and I LOVED it, and he got me one too. I have used the heck out of that little (big) robot for years, and he is still working just fine! I know they are far more streamlined now.
Maryrose...I love buttah on mine too....ugh...hence my growing back side! And I miss you too....so much. Been having a bit of a pity party lately too!

MMMMMMMM! I have a bread machine I've used only a few times, but I was actually just read in the paper that people are saving a lot of money by making their bread instead of buying it now.

And now I want a lemon bar real bad!

Hi Kris...boy, that bread looks good. Bet your house smelled heavenly while it was baking! And you make your lemon bars from scratch...I'm impressed! They probably tasted a million times better than the box stuff you just mix up and cook. I'm sooo glad you found the cute Easter cookies...hope you got a great deal on them, too. I couldn't believe the price! :-) Susan

Hi Susan,
Don't you make lemon bars? I love anything with lemon.
My cookies were NOT 10 cents a piece like yours. Mine were 1 dollar. But I thought they were adorable, and wanted to buy them to use as inspiration for some that I will be doing for Easter. And, like you, to use for a tablescape, at each place setting.
Guess we were on the same wave length there.
