I've got a BEE in my bonnet!

Well, maybe not in my bonnet, but I have a BEE HIVE in my wood duck house that sits out in one of the avocado trees in the grove!!!
I was walking back up to the house this morning after working in the garden, and thought I would pick a few avocados. I heard a very loud buzzing, and discovered it was coming from my wood duck house.
I was amazed at the size of the honey comb and hive in this box!! It has only been two weeks since we last picked avocados and there were no bees out there then! They work fast! The term "Busy As A Bee" is true!!
This was as close as I would dare get. I want to get another shot, but I think I will have long sleeves on when I do. If you double click this pic you should be able to see more detail. I hope. Anyway....a very happy and HOT Sunday to you! Supposed to be like yesterday and it reached 111 in parts around here! YUCK!!!

That IS a big hive. So now you can harvest honey too. Be careful though. Did you hear the story of the 83 year old woman here in AZ who was stung by ovver 1000 bees. They had built a hive close to her house and as she approached it, they attacked her. It was awful!

Way too many bees for my liking. Scary.

I love that Pepsi/garbage man story. So super sweet. Thanks for sharing that random act of kindness.

WOW...I don't think I would have even gotten as close as you did for the pic let alone anything else. I do LOVE honey, but find bees too scary....I was at a picnic once and little girl had about 20 bees get all tangled up in her hair. She had come accross a hive. It was horrifying as adults tried to pull them from her hair and they were getting stung right along with the screaming little girl. I've never been a bee fan since.

Hi Kris,
Sorry I missed you on Friday. Mom did tell me you called but by the time I heard you were already on your way to paradise. I will call you tomorrow.
I hate bees, we have been battling bees for at least 5 years. Everytime the beeeee man comes out we think they are gone and the next year they are back. Hopefully yours are just passing through.
Talk to you tomorrow.... mom leaves for AZ in the morning.

I'm shivering over here. I HATE bees!!! I'll never forget when I came home to my Mom's and it looked like there was a gigantic whole in the front of her house but it was like a million bees. Eww, I'm so grossed out right now. I also remember Sean and I were grilling brats and the smoke attracted them, there were hundreds flying around the back patio and Sean went in and out about five times to save the brats from the bees. Then the BEEEE man came to save us...
