Decking The Halls

This is my kitchen table and dining table.  No formal dining room in my house.  I bought these dishes about 20 years ago at Kmart.  I have them sitting on a white embossed edge charger.  I love taking them out every year to use for the holidays.  These are what we use every day.  I do plan to begin looking for some formal Christmas dishes too.  Maybe I will buy a couple place settings this year after Christmas and add to it every year.  The Santa napkin rings were also a post Christmas Tai Pan purchase.  The little votive candles are sitting in antique jello molds with a little rice in the dish to hold them.

Are these not the cutest measuring cups you ever did see?
Tomorrow I will move outside the kitchen and show you more of how we do Christmas at our house.

I LOVE all of your decorations!! The dishes are great. The year I had to have an emergency hysterectomy (4 years ago now) I couldn't do much of anything as I had the surgery on the 7th I think and I had been wanting some "everyday" Christmas dishes for a long time and I decided to send Melody after some. I just wanted the plates. I was thinking of some cute ones I had seen at Target. She was about 19 at the time and I thought she could pick out something cute. I told her to use my master card (she had one with her name on it to that account) Anyway, she comes back with 12 gold rimmed Lenox China plates that were of course a small fortune. She was soo pleased with herself and had been to several stores looking and looking for something "nice" as she put it. She couldn't wait to show them to me and was soo giddy about what she was sure would be my excitement that I couldn't bear to tell her, "Melody, these are EXPENSIVE China plates, not everyday Christmas dishes...are you insane?" So after telling my husband what she had done (and reviving him after he heard the price) we decided to keep them. Every year since then I have added a piece or two to the set. Serving bowls, the salt and pepper, cream and sugar etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. But more importantly for me I never look at them without seeing Melody's face that day she brought them home. When we were looking for dishes for her bridal registery she of course quickly realized her mistake about the Lenox and said, "Oh mom, what an idiot I was. Why on earth didn't you kill me and send them back?" haha I always think of this story when I see pretty Christmas dishes. And now I've written a book again, lol, sorry. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your things. I could love blogging for this privilege alone. I love "seeing" everyone's pretty things, and a glimpse into their hearts and homes. Have a good day Kris, Deb

Such festive touches throughout your home. No wonder it takes us days to decorate...we decorate every corner.

Oh my gosh, I just got finished reading Debbie's comment. I think that is the sweetest story!!

Kris, love all of your wonderful decorations!! Everything is looking so festive, I love your table! I need more stuff. My entire guest bed I had filled with Christmas things to decorate my house with and now it's practically bare and I don't have Christmas in every corner like I had hoped. I guess I better make a trip to Kelley's R Us soon.

Don't you just love Tai Pan, it's great for the holidays, I love your Merry Christmas sign, I just picked one up this year but it's very different from yours, I was going to put it in my tree but found a better place for it!!

Once again, everything is looking great.

P.S. You should post your Chai tea recipe again...

I agree with your Christmas card choice. I loved this card but I also loved the Christmas in the Grove and the Maui Christmas too! I have them all......
