My Weekend

Good Sunday morning to you!  It is dreary and gray outside. The rain is coming. It is already falling in Los Angeles, where my nephew is running the L.A. marathon today!  Go Donavon!  I have it on the telly, but they are only showing the lead pack.  Somehow I don't think Don is near them.
Well, my men folk are back home.  They left on Friday morning for their annual camping trip to Joshua Tree.  They had such bad wind that their tent kept collapsing, so they stuck it out over 24 hours, but came home before spending another night in the freezing cold with a tent that fell down on them.
I was going to spend the whole weekend alone, doing my thing.  Yesterday wound up being quite busy, as I met my daughter Eri on the other side of town to donate blood and be tested for bone marrow matching for a little girl in the fireman family that is fighting cancer.  Then I wound up meeting up with my Mom and niece to shop for a dress for Deanna's basketball banquet this week.  That was fun!  Reminded me of when I shopped with my girls.  Everything looks so cute on those young ones.  Then we all went to Kings Fish House for a wonderful dinner.  I had the Shrimp Louie...my favorite!  Ate every morsel on my plate.  I weighed in early in the morning, and was down only a little over a pound.  When I did this last time, I was jogging, and it was coming off so much faster.  Blast it all!!
I was at WalMart on Friday and saw these pretty little plain pastel Tshirts in the little girls department.
I had recently seen some cute applique patterns on Etsy so I bought a few of them.  I was surprised to discover that almost immediately upon purchasing them, I had received an email from the Etsy shop owner.  She actually sends them to you via email in a PDF file.  BRILLIANT!!!  So I printed them out,  and using my light box, I traced them to cardstock for using.
I got some Easter appliques and one other DARLING one that is a three tiered cake on a cake pedestal.  This is the one I had seen on a blog.  The lady had put this onto a denim dress for her granddaughter's birthday, and then topped it with the number of her birthday she was celebrating.  It was so cute!  I can't wait to make one of these too.  I cannot remember the blog where I saw this, or I would link it.  If I find it, I will.
So I used three different sizes of the Easter Egg applique, and the little Easter Bunny, to make two darling shirts for my Grand Girlies.

This first one is Hannah's.  I wanted to get her the pink shirt, which is her favorite color.  But they only had it in the smaller sizes.  This pale aqua is beautiful!  I am in love with this color lately.  And I love to mix pale aqua with reds and pinks.  Yum!!
And little Claire got the pink Tee. I used the smaller two eggs on hers to keep it to scale.
Then I did a hand blanket stitch all the way around the appliques.
Using two strands of  a pale aqua floss for Hannah's.
And a pale pink for Claire's.
I am a bit rusty on my blanket stitch!  I haven't done it in so long.  These were very fun for me to make.  I hope they like them.  Now I need to find a dumptruck or something to make Noah's.
I have also gotten quite a bit done on this monster.
I have enjoyed this blanket so much!  It is soft, warm, and cozy to work with.  I highly recommend this yarn.  It is Encore by Plymouth.
I am about 2/3 of the way done.  I bought two more skeins of each color and will use it all, then call it finished.
Well, the rain is here now.  I guess I won't be planting my flowers today. I may just have to go get my blanket and throw it over my legs and keep stitching!
Happy Sunday!  I am glad my campers are home!

You were a busy girl this weekend! Sounds like you did a lot for a girl with no plans. The tshirts are so darned cute! You did an amazing job and the stitching was a great idea, really finished them off. The girls will love them. Brian just got back an hour ago from the lake, it's nice to have him back. I think your rain is headed this way, you can keep it!

You just crank out those projects! I LOVE the girls Easter shirts!!! Those are SOOO cute! And in my opinion, so much better than some frilly dress that costs way too much that they will wear ONCE on Easter.
Your afghan looks great too. I love the colors.

I love the tee-shirts you made, so fun and I'm sure your girls will enjoy wearing them. Your blanket is really coming along nicely. I've never tried that yarn, but will check it out next time I'm at Joanne's. I'm enjoying a crafty Sunday as well. Glad your men made it home safely. :-)

I love red and aqua together! I'm afraid if I make something with those colors it will come out horrid and I'll hate the combo thereafter so I haven't done it yet... Your shirts came out adorable!

Kris, super cute shirts for the girls. I seriously need to learn to sew! You have such great ideas and make it look so easy! The afghan is beautiful. It reminds me of the ones, my nana made for me and my son. wish she was still around to make me more. You should give lessons.
Happy Rainy Sunday to you,
Traci

Love, love, love your ripple. Does it have a name yet, besides MONSTER.... Let me think. How's about Alpine Meadows. I'm sure I'll come up with more.
