Vintage Thrift

I have a few favorite haunts here in town were I find some of my favorite things.  I don't usually go in during the summer months.   Since Noah went back to school...Gamma went shopping again.    Yesterday, despite the triple digits, I braved the Vintage Thrift.  She only has fans and a swamp cooler for a/c.  But sometimes a girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do.  I ran into an old friend from our girls volleyball days there  and we had fun chatting and catching up, while shopping for vintage treasures.  I have collected and loved rooster and chicken related things for a very long time.  Long before I actually had chickens of my own.  I have some of my Dad's mother's rooster dishes that I love, and many other rooster related things in my kitchen. So when I found these barkcloth tea towels, I nearly flipped!!!
The chickens are my favorite, of course!
It is in perfect condition and I just LOVE the yummy colors.  The pumpkin color background and rich golden yellows.....it goes perfectly in my kitchen.
I love birds, and this one caught my eye.
WHOooooo doesn't love owls?  The colors of these are so Fallish and warm.  This was a set of two.
I found a little Roo, in the perfect golden yellow for my kitchen.
A couple of years ago, I found two perfect plates in a rooster pattern.  It is called Poppycock, I believe, and it is marked, Made In England.  I check e bay for them, and watch the thrift shops for more pieces.  They are pricey on ebay, so every once in awhile I find a piece to match.  Yesterday I found this.
Oh how I adore the colors!!!  If only I could find more of the plates to have at least enough for my family!  Then, when leaving, I saw this vintage yellow and white umbrella, trimmed in white fringe.  In perfect condition.  I immediately saw my Mom in about 1965 with white sunglasses on sitting in lawn chair with one of these clipped to the side!!!  I had to have it.  I have no idea when or where I will use it.  But Terri nearly gave it away for free, so it came home with me.

What a fun little trip to The Vintage Thrift I had.  Upon leaving I saw a lady walk to the desk with an old metal hanging chicken feeder.  I had to stifle a gasp, and all I could think was how did I miss that?  I was going to offer to arm wrestle her for it, but she outweighed me by a good 200 pounds, so I had to let it go.....  Boo hiss!!  I also got a cute wooden sign that says Fresh Eggs for my coop.  I have already hung it in there.  No picture yet though.
These are what we call The Dog Days Of Summer my friends.
Don't tell Ducey we are going to be gone tonight.  He hates it when we leave.  We are heading out to the beach town of Ventura in a bit here to meet up with Greg's sister and niece.  Our daughter Eri and her daughter Jessica are running in a half marathon together tomorrow morning, and we are going to cheer them on and visit.  Drew will be  here holding down the fort so no sneaking over to steal my new vintage umbrella!!!
It is another ghastly hot day.  The A/C has been clicking on and off all through the night.  It is on days like these that I love my pool the most.  Last night at dusk, I went out to put the girls in the coop and do a bit of yard work.  And as daylight slipped away and there was but a hint of light left, I stepped into the pool to cool off, and just kept going until I was up to my chin in the delightful refreshingly cool water.  I could see Mr. G asleep on the couch watching the ball game inside on the sofa.  I bobbed up and down in the water on a noodle and watched as dusk gave way to darkness, and the stars came out to twinkle their first hello.   It was the perfect ending to my day.  A perfect hour of quiet reflection and the best way to cool off for a comfortable sleep on what must surely have been one of the hottest nights our summer has seen.
See you tomorrow....we're off to Ventura.

Dang. I was going to hop a flight away from the hurricane to steal your yellow rooster...
Does Ducey hate when you're gone? Charlie has separation issues, lol - but you get the warmest welcome you can imagine when you come home :)

Kris,
Love the thrifty finds. Email me a photo of your "Poppycock" dishes, as I thrift I will also look for you. A dip in the pool sounds great. Around here the mosquito's are so bad you can hardly be outside. I guess I can't have it both ways, so I will vote for 70 with mosquito's and no hot humid weather. Is Mr. G's hand and knee doing any better?

Kris,
Love all of your finds! How fun. I too love old things and USE them. For me it is the thrill of sustainability.
Doug watches t.v. just like your hubby. I will say "Doug, go take your shower." He says "I'm watching this..." and promptly falls back to sleep. Mostly I enjoy it because then I can do whatever I want to do! Yay. Wish I could go to your swimmin hole with you!

Your vintage finds are so cute and SO YOU!! I hope to incorporate more thrifting & garage sales into my schedule next year. I haven't really had the time for it in the past, but I always love seeing the unique treasures that can be found for next to nothing!
