September Sizzle!

Good morning!  I have been absent and I don't even know what I have been doing?  It has been hotter than hot here in these parts.  Up to 108 on a couple of days, and then lingering at the 103 mark.  Ugh.  I get up early and do what I must.  Then I save the rest for the late evenings, just before dark.  I had jury duty one day this week.  Always interesting.  I had the pleasure of seeing friends over lunch and once over dinner this week.  Did some poking around in Joann's with my friend Jae.   I have been wanting to get some of the Denyse Schmidt fabric I have been seeing all over the place.  No such luck, as they were pretty picked over.  I did get this yummy plaid though for fall.
And a bit of this chalkboard fabric.  It has to be seasoned first.
And some new cotton yarns.  But these are not going to be knitted  up into washcloths.  These are the new Twists.  I have been wanting some of the pretty twisted string that I have seen all over the place.  A spool is kind of pricey.  Not this though.  2.99 a skein.  Now if only they had red and white!!  I will keep looking.  Sorry for the terrible photo.  The colors are so pretty.
Not a lot of cooking going on here with this heat.  But we did make some DIVINE beer brats on the barbie the other night.  First I steamed them in a couple bottles of beer, with sliced onions, salt, pepper, garlic and pepper flakes.
Oh, bout 15 minutes or so.  Remove the brats and finish off on the grill.  Then reduce this liquid mixture while grilling the brats, and heap reduced onion mixture onto your grilled brat.  Along with plenty of sourkrout as well.  Top with the last of your home grown fresh tomatoes and enjoy!
Oh my gosh, was this ever good.  So good, it required two TUMS before bed!
I have been busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest lately.  The summer has flown by.  I didn't get half of what I wanted to done.  Oh well....... manana.
As the weekend approaches, we will be celebrating Mr. G's birthday.  My nephew Matt's birthday.  Thinking of our nephew Todd on his birthday.  My cousin Lynn is arriving from Seattle and we will have a bbq on Sunday at my Mom's.  And we will also be taking time to reflect and remember the lives lost and changed forever on that horrible day ten years ago.
Today I....
For our FREEDOM.  For the LOVE and HEALTH of my family.  For good FRIENDS, that enrich our lives and make us laugh and remember that there are always far more good times, than bad.
As for today, I must find time to tackle this growing problem in my sewing room.
In closing, I wanted to share this little bit that was forwarded to me by my Mom this morning.  I thought these words were worth sharing.
There are five things that you cannot recover in life:

 (1) The Stone...........after it's thrown,
 (2) The Word...............after it's said,
 (3) The Occasion......after it's missed, and
 (4) The Time.............after it's gone.
 (5) A person..............after they die

Go out and make it a great day!!!

We are having cool and drizzly days but I'm not going to complain. It could be much worse. I'm getting ready to haul out "fall". This looks yummy!

Best,
Bonnie

What a great idea for the twisted yarn! I've been annoyed because the twine is so pricey when the answer has literally been sitting in my knitting basket.

I know just how you feel when the week gets away. Especially on those hot days. We have fall in the air here for sure now.

What great finds. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for Red and White. I may know where to look.

But, most important. I did not know you had a little Midwest Wisconsin blood in you. That's just how we/they cook them brat here. You are one smart cookie.

Have a great weekend. Just peddling around here avoiding all those chores.

Kris,
When should it cool off there? I would think that will help your girls to get into the egg mood. I hope you get eggs, soon!

That is how we do the bratwurst too. It's SO good that way. Sorry about your heatwave. I know how brutal it is. We had it for over 3 months straight. In fact, we broke multiple heat records here in Texas this summer.

ps. If I didn't already thank you, I appreciate your kind words yesterday!

Hi Kris,
It HAS been so hot lately!
I live ON WEST CHASE!! We own the property on Skyline Drive with the Avocado Grove and all the way back to Foothill and then back to Chase. Our house is set back with the white horse fence out front on Chase with the huge 200 year old tree in the front yard and circular driveway. We rent out the other 2 houses and the barn. Its 8 acres total. Are you East or West Chase?? We are sooo close, we have to get together!! Where off of Chase do you live??

I have been so horrible about commenting lately. I hope you forgive me. I've been reading every time you post, and I did see that you gave me a mention and link several days back. Thank you for that.

Brats is a favorite in this house. We try not to have it too much though. Yours looks yummy.

Hope you cool off soon. It's been nice this past week here in the 80s for highs, but we're supposed to heat up this coming week. Maybe they're wrong. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Kris.. I absolutely **ADORE** your door decorations! Those baskets are outstanding! We're having a hot spell here in Oregon.. so it hasn't made me feel like Fall decorating... I know that will be over soon and the rain will set in for ... ever. I also have some of that cotton yarn and you're right.. it's a perfect replacement for that spendy stuff. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
