Rain & Gardens

Rain, is what we had a lot of on Friday!!  It rained hard.  Sideways rain!  The kind that soaks you even if you are holding an umbrella.  I loved it!

Saturday was very relaxing.  We visited my Mom for a little while.  Then we had lunch at Corner Bakery, and did a little shopping at Mother's Market.  It was cold and windy, and the perfect day to sit on the sofa and watch movies.  Which is exactly what we did when we got home.  Greg popped some popcorn and we watched two movies and had a roaring fire.
Sunday was much warmer.  We enjoyed the sunshine outside.  Made a trip to Lowe's for some lumber so Greg could build me one more garden box.
Gennifer and Jake and the girls came by, and we had a little lunch sitting out on the back patio.  After they left, I got busy planting my new garden box.
The seeds that were planted in the other boxes are coming up nicely

Jake was making fun of my tomato cages.  They now make really pretty bright colored yellow and red cages.  Maybe I will get a couple for the two new tomato plants I added today.
This box is all zucchini.  I replanted it today, and now it will be a week or so before I see the seedlings.
I had to put this makeshift fence around the garden boxes quick.  If you have chickens and a garden, then you know that the two don't mix!!!   Chickens will scratch up  a new garden in search of grubs and will eat your lettuce and tender seedlings in nothing flat.  They have already found ways to sneak in here and cause trouble!  Thank goodness we have these old wrought iron fence pieces!!  It doesn't look very nice, I know.  But for now, it has to be there.
I hear it is going to be a very nice, warm and sunny week!!  I will be planting a few more things in my garden, and enjoying the weather!
Are you planting a garden this year?
XO  Kris

So far we have planted a few flowers and still have a few herbs, but we keep talking about building a raised box for vegetables. Many years ago our family had a raised box garden. I remember we grew yummy tomatoes and an outstanding crop of cosmos. I hope you have a great crop this year! <3

Sounds like a heavenly weekend, mind you I would die for some sunshine right now.
Love all your gardening boxes, I have one, which is so fun to work with, & even better when something actually grows :)
Have a lovely week Kris

I think your tomato bird cage is cute! No garden here. Even though we have a big yard...I feel like there's not a good spot to put one! I'm thinking of planting something in a few containers out on the deck.
The last time we had rain, I thought of you. I tried to see it from your perspective...but it only worked briefly...and then I was back to "ugh, it's raining."

We had rain here yesterday, last night mostly, and thunder & lightning. Clouds this morning look the rain isn't over. I sat and did some hand sewing, putting in basting stitches to some applique pieces all afternoon.
I love the idea of having a garden but our lot is too shady for much. John is going to set out some tomato plants to see if we can grow them and I'd like a basil plant or two perhaps. I've never had chickens but from what I read on blogs they are popular these days with many, even "townies". Fresh eggs would certainly be a treat!

So jealous of all those lovely veggies you will be having soon. We were supposed to get your rain but it never made it here. It did get chilly and cloudy but we're looking at warmer weather today.

It was really quite the storm huh? I told Jeff that at one point I can see the rain coming down and blowing in like 3 directions at once. I love it! Your garden is looking great. I know you'll put it all to good use!

Your raised garden boxes are awesome..... I have planted willy-nilly in an eyesore area in my backyard..... tomatoes, peppers, and Greek oregano.... then flowers and beans.... Hopefully it was not too late for the desert....

Take care and keep having fun!

This has been the strangest weather. It is so gorgeous today. We have planted tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers, radishes, lettuce and carrots so far. We will be adding corn, sugar snap peas and green beans this weekend. Can't wait for the harvest...

Wouldn't it be great if the red cages attracted more bees and butterflies to pollinate your tomatoes so you had even more tomatoes this year? I think it's a possibility. The rain was wonderful along with the perfect (maybe the last of the cool) weekend weather. Good for you that you did take time to relax!

I wish you would send some of that California rain our way. We are living in a major drought!

The weather has been a bit of a roller coaster, but today was perfect.
I love your tomato cages. You know you can turn them upside down, wrap them in lights and use them as Christmas trees when the tomato season is over *s*

Your garden boxes look great...I was worried about some of my new seedlings in that crazy rain we had...some of them were under water!

Hi Kris, Oh how I wish you were here-we'd have such a fun time together. Yes there are still lots of chickens running wild all over the island, roosters crow all night long but I'm learning to sleep through it. I heard about your rain-it will do your garden good. I've been trying to eat mainly salads but feel like I'm just retaining lots of water and when I get home, I'll need to really lose some weight. Have a great Tuesday.
Love, Noreen

I love a good old rainy day in Florida, when the sun finally takes a break. We haven't had one for a while. I think I need to live in Seattle. Your garden boxes are going to be amazing. I love that your family is so close. I think it is because you are a fantastic Mom and Grandma. They can't stay away from you. Have a lovely week.

You do have the jump on me this year. Just now getting caught back up and can't wait to get outside and start to build and dig. But, wait... frost predicted by the end of the week... Crazy back home here still.

Hi Kris!

Your gardens are really coming along nicely! I am sure planning on getting ours started once my yard is back in order from the patio. We still have some finishing up to do. The dogs aren't too crazy about the changes so far, but they sure are enjoying the loose dirt they can get into! LOL
Hope you are having a wonderful week! Enjoy the weather.

Blessings,
Jill
