April Showers Bring May Flowers

I love May!  I really, really love May.  You know why?  Because it is warm.  But not hot.  The yards are coming alive.  The birds are nesting everywhere.  And I do mean EVERYWHERE!  We will get back to that in a minute.  I can go out front or back, and snip flowers to put in every room of the house.
I wish you could smell these.
The roses are just beautiful right now.  The gardenias are lush and the fragrance as you walk up to my front porch is divine!
Yesterday I had the Knitty Biddies here.  We always have so much fun.  We do more laughing and lunching than we do knitting and crocheting, I think.  But our sessions are not only filled with fun, but with inspiration too.  My friend Denise brought me some freshly harvested white radishes from her garden.
This evening while I was watering my garden, I was trying to remember when I planted it, and what it looked like.  So I went back into my photos and found this.
Since planting this in late March, I have added another raised bed, and a few containers.
Today my garden looks like this.
In every box, along with the more mature plants, I keep a rotation of newly planted veggies.  I harvest some, then plant some more.  This one box contains only zucchini.  They were planted from seed two weeks after the rest of the garden was planted because the first set didn't come up.   Which could have been the result of a wayward chicken!!!
I think I am going to have a lot of tomatoes this year!
After my gardening, I said goodnight to the girls.
Their favorite roost is an old hoe that is wedged into the corner of the coop.
Oh, about those birds that have been trying to nest at both my front and my back doors.....they are gone!!!!  They have moved on to another location!  I have to say, I am shocked.  From what I read, the chances of getting rid of nesting swallows once they begin to build, is nearly impossible!  Maybe the trick is to catch them before they get too much built.  But they do seem to be gone.  I took down my "scarecrow" too, and they haven't come back.
Happy Friday.  Happy Weekend!  And Happy Mothers Day to all of the Moms!!!!
XO  Kris

Hello Kris! I'm your newest follower. Been looking around your blog and seeing all sorts of interesting things. I will definitely have to come back when I have more time. You should have a bumper crop with all the veggies you have growing. Everything looks nice and green. You must have a green thumb too, lol
Happy Mother's Day weekend,
Susanne :)

Look at the color on those flowers. I think I can smell them too. I can't believe how big and lush your veggie garden is already. We are just getting started here. I so need to make some of those beds like you have. I just need to figure out where. And yes, I do have so much more energy outside these days.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful garden with us and I too am certain I can smell the roses and gardenias!

My oldest daughter and youngest grand girl brought me a vase full of lilacs for my room this morning! So wonderful!

I am very happy your hat-hoe-scarecrow helped your feathered friends decide to build their nest elsewhere, Kris! Such a clever kind idea, I will remember for our home defense(:

Happy Mother's Day <3

You are a busy working gardener!!! I am so impressed with your harvest/planting routine. WE plant once in Chicago..the season is short....but I could plant twice I guess.

Our knit group is much the same in knit productivity as yours, but man we have fun and support one another

Kris, those flowers are stunning. I mean, I can't get over how gorgeous they are. They look like a wedding bouquet.

Happy Mother's Day to you! I hope I am always a fun, loving and caring mom like you are. You put your kids and grandkids first, and you are such an inspiration to me.

Happy Mother's Day Kris, Oh how I love your roses and gardenias-oh the fragrance! Your garden is so plentiful-of course because you are in Ca. Here in Colorado, winter veges and lettuce are going but most plants don't go in until after Memorial Day for fear of frost or hail.
Hope you had an incredible day-you deserve it!
Hugs, Noreen
