Happy First Day Of Fall!

Hello, and Happy Fall!  Even though the calendar says so, it doesn't feel like it.  At all.  It did cool down to the high 90's this week.  And there were even a couple of nights that were cool enough to open up the windows.  But today, we are back up to 103.  Ugh.
Despite the heat, here are a few things that made me happy this week.
My daughters both found our favorite creamer!!!!    Erika brought some home, and Gennifer brought some to me too!  I don't ever drink my coffee with sugar in it, and I don't usually like any flavored coffees or creamers. But strangely enough, I love this one!!
Sweet pears.  I love them.
Getting to know my two new hens.
Elaine said we could change the names.  Noah named the one on the right, with the pretty blue tail feathers, Bloom.  Why bloom?  Because he says she is pretty like a flower.  I named the one on the left, Scarlett O'Hara.  Scarlett for short.  She is red, so it fits.  They are so sweet.  They stick together, and stay on their roost, until I come out in the morning to open the coop door.  My existing 5 hens, only chase them a little if in the coop.  Outside the coop, there is no problem at all.
I was actually standing inside the coop to take these last night.  My original 5, all roost on the left, and the new girls, roost on the right.
They are pretty funny to watch at night, when they are all jockeying for position on the roost.  They push, and squabble, and nudge, and change order a dozen times before settling in.
Another thing that made me happy this week, was finding a pair of new shoes.  They are like tennis shoes on the bottom, but they look like Mary Jane's.
Another happy, is the delicious Pumpkin-Chocolate Chip Brownies that my daughter Erika made for our Knitty Biddie's meeting today.  These were SO good!  She got the recipe on Pinterest.
Having my knitting group, The Knitty Biddies over today, made me happy.
These were taken before they arrived, and food was covering the entire table.  That little Autumn fabric basket I made a few years ago.  I love to bring it out in the Fall.
We "Biddies" have the best time when we get together.  Today we did more eating than stitching.  We did discuss our First Annual Knitty Biddy Boutique that we are having the first weekend in December though.  It will be held here at my house.  We are pretty excited about that!
Are these not the cutest crochet trimmed little girls ankle socks!
Oh, and I made this delicious Cucumber Lime Punch, also from Pinterest, for my Biddies today.
This punch is light, cool and refreshing.  All you need is one cucumber, sliced.  One frozen can of Limeade mix, thawed. And 1 liter of lemon/lime soda pop.  Stir and chill, then serve over ice.   Ahhhhh, I have been sipping it all day.
Oh, and note to self:  Don't wear a new white tee shirt to do yard work in!!!  Last night after it finally cooled off, which was when the sun went down, I pruned some of my plants in the front planter.  I had enough light from the front of the house to finish.  But this morning when I washed the load of whites,  I discovered the tee shirt was ruined despite using bleach!
Well, I know I haven't been blogging like I usually do.  I guess I just haven't done anything very exciting.  Hopefully as the weather cools, I will get my mojo back.
Today I leave you with a fun little video link to check out.  Friends of ours have recently been to Kenya and while on a safari ride, they encountered this very curious cheetah!!!!  Don edited down the footage, and then posted it on You tube.  The video has gone viral, and he has been contacted by news stations and CNN requesting permission to post his film.  It is pretty neat.  Check it out.

Oh, and one last thing.......I had been hearing all of the hullaballoo about this Honey Boo Boo reality show.  I was channel surfing the other day, and discovered it was on.  I watched it.  I watched more than one episode too.   I was shocked!  I thought it was disgusting.  How in the world does a 32 year old woman with 4 daughters, ranging in age from 6 to 17, her oldest who is expecting her first child, and making this 32 year old woman a grandmother, find it's way to reality tv?  They are ill mannered, foul mouthed, sassy and crude!!!  No thank you!  Honey Boo Boo is the youngest daughter, who does beauty pageants.   She is a smart alec little girl, who seems to know far too much about her sister's pregnancy, and upcoming birth for a little girl who should be playing with dolls!  I thought it was sad.  I don't ever want to see it again!!!!  YUCK!
Have you seen it?  What are your thoughts?
I will be back soon.
XO  Kris

Yes, unfortunately I think Honey Boo Boo will end up like her disgusting excuse for a mother. But you are right, the TV channel is really to blame for glamourising them in the first place.

I'm happy to know we aren't the only ones who anxiously await the Pumpkin Spice creamer season! I bought 4 big bottles yesterday. I'll have to go back and buy more in a few weeks! I always drink my coffee black, except on the weekends when I use this with the Pumpkin Spice K-Cups.....weird, I know! ;) I made your pumpkin/apple muffins, today. They are delish! I also made pumpkin- chocolate chip cookies, yummy! I love everything about this time of the year.

Your shoes are really cute! Are they comfy?

I've never seen Honey Boo-Boo, I have heard people talk about it. At first I thought it was a cartoon. It's so sad that people like that make millions from being so dysfunctional. Look at Snookie (?) and the rest of that hot mess. Sad!

Your girls (chicks) sound very entertaining! Talk about pecking order!

Have a great weekend! Deb

I forgot to tell you about a great stain remover for your shirt. Use one part Dawn, two parts peroxide, and two parts baking soda. Rub directly into the stains, let sit for a few minutes and wash. I've been able to get most of the stains out using this, even some that have 'set in'. Good luck!

Don't even get me started on wearing white in the garden. I have quite a few just like that. Even worse is when I wear white to cook. Guess I'm just a messy kind of gal. I'm digging those new shoes. Now, about all the hens.....do they wake you up early in the morn cacklin' away. Time for bed here... nighty-night...

I want to be a "Biddie"!! I'm a coffee purist and only like real half and half in mine. However, I love the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks and my husband does a good rendition of it at home.

Happy autumn!

Best,
Bonnie

Pure trash getting TV shows makes me slightly queasy, so I try to avoid them at all costs. I cannot believe that the mother is younger than me! I thought she had at least ten years on me! Makes me feel pretty good (on several levels, overall :)
Happy fall--hope you get nicer temps soon :)

Just watched the video, and wow! That's incredible! I love how when the cheetah first gets up there he's looking around like he's (she's?) seeing a whole new world. Surreal!

I have lost my blog mojo lately too. I'm just not into it. Sigh.

I hate Honey Boo-Boo, not the little girl herself, but the whole show. Ugh. Gross.

Hi Kris, Firstly I haven't watched that show because I could tell it was going to be awful. I hate pageants for little girls anyway. Now, let's see-your punch sounds delicious. I'm sorry it is still so hot there(snow is predicted in a couple of weeks-heavens no). I like your shoes but am surprise you didn't show the side view. Love your table setting and the socks are so cute. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
Hugs, Noreen

After being so hot while on I-5 last weekend it has been a shock to find myself back to turtleneck-sweater weather here in Portland! I'm glad you have found lots of creative things to enjoy even while it is hot, Kris! The cucumber punch sounds wonderful! We have been flavoring our water with slices of cucumber and lemon and strawberries sometimes, which we have enjoyed.
The socks with the crocheted edge are such a neat idea. I have never tried to make any, but hope I can sometime. Thanks for sharing! Coooool hugs to Kris from Gracie xx :)

Goodness there was soo much I wanted to say and I will never remember it all, haha. First I haven't even heard of the show but sure sounds like I am not missing much. And then, how horrid is all this heat? I really want it to be done. I got excited too when it cooled down some a couple of nights this week. I LOVE the socks....soo cute. Somehow I just know the knitty biddies would be soo good and I don't even knit, haha. The punch sounds really good, and my mom has a very similar pair of shoes. They are soo cute, and she wears then to death. OK, can't remember anything else. Enjoy your week-end Kris!

You might try Shout Advanced. It gets out the worst stains for me ... even stains that I didn't see before I washed/dried. Worth a try?

That fabric basket is so, so adorable ... it just says "fall" (although if it were mine, I'd be hard pressed to put it away when we leave fall).

I love those shoes ... I've reached the age where comfort is the #1 criteria for shoes ... but I would like a pair that looks nice enough to wear when getting out and about. What brand are they?

The chickens have settled in nicely by the looks...

I love the name of your knitting group, it sounds like a fun group to be a part of. I bet those brownies didn't last long, they look so delish! Your table setting looks cute and so do those shoes, they were a good find!

I must join up with pinterest, although I think I waste too much time on the computer already. I have had a peak at yours and liked what I saw :)

I hope your t-shirt isn't ruined, maybe if you soak it for a bit the stains may come out. Lemon juice is good for lightening stains. Dab the stains and hang out in the sunlight, this has worked for me before.

We all have times when blogging takes the back seat. I used to try and blog regularly but I put too much pressure on myself. So now I just post sporadically.

Cant say I have heard of that show, dont think I want to either. Going to watch that clip now, thanks for sharing :)

xx

Tell us about your new shoes...what's the brand and where did you find them?

Hi Kris! I am obsessed with flavored creamer! I'll have to give the pumpkin spice a try! And I also saw your post about the pumpkin Eggos. Ummmm, yes please!

Have not seen Honey Boo Boo but you've intrigued me into taping an episode on my DVR. I'll let you know my thoughts...

So about that Kromex cookie jar I bought... I think I paid $2 for it!!! It doesn't really match my decor so I think I'll sell it in my sale or I eventually plan to open an etsy shop... maybe I'll save it for that. :)

Hope you have a GREAT weekend!

Love your post. Your chickens are just adorable, sure hope I get some soon. Our temps have crashed from 90 to in the 30's, calling for sleet on Monday. Looks like we skipped Fall and are heading straight to Winter. I used to love those creamers when I was a coffee drinker. The shoes are to cute, what brand are they?

Wow - almost a dozen things I could comment on all in one post. I am hoping there will be pumpkin spice in mid October when we return from Cambodia. What I miss most here are the autumn sights. It helps to see your pretty decorations.

Kris, how fun that you have two new girls. Love the names! Noah is a cutie to come up with such a sweet name and for such a darling reason. Girl we are so much alike! I hold a stitching group at my home every Thursday. We do mostly visiting and eating and very little stitching. lol! Sometimes somebody will work on binding a quilt or bring handwork, but lately hardly nothing. Always love show and tell when the bring something that they have finished at home. I have not even heard of this Honey Boo Boo. Sounds pretty sad to me. Think I'll wait for Duck Dynasty to return. It at least makes me laugh. I will check out the video.
Hugs,
Jann
p.s. hope it cools down soon!
