Greg's Big Catch

It appears that Fall has finally come to my area.  The weather has turned from warm to chilly.  We even had a delightful afternoon and night of rain two days ago.  It was heavenly.  I love, love, love the cold weather and rain!  I love to have all the windows wide open so that I can hear the rain, and feel the cold air on my face.  I have traded out my summer things for my warm and cozy winter wardrobe.  I put the flannies on the bed, along with another blanket.  I even turn my heated mattress pad on to preheat the bed before peeling the covers back and slipping into my cozy nest.
The boating season is over, so Greg went up to Big Bear on Saturday to take the boat out of the water.  Of course, he couldn't resist wetting a line first, so off he went to glide along the unmarred surface of cold water in search of the elusive "Walter" one last time.  He texted a photo to me early in the day, that made me wish I had come along.  Nothing else came, so I assumed he did not find his fish after all.
When he got home and I asked him how it was, he had a look on his face, and I knew.  He had a perfect day on the lake.  And he brought home this!
It filled the entire length of the ice chest!  It was a Beaut!  A WHOPPER of a fish, weighing in at just under FOUR pounds!!!
I believe he did in fact, finally catch Walter!!!!!  He was BEAMING, as if you couldn't already tell!!!
What a great way to end the boating season!!!!  Greg cleaned and filleted his beautiful trout.  The flesh was bright pink, like salmon.  We ate the fish the following night.  He cooked half of it on the grill outside, and my Mom cooked the other half, Southern style, the way she grew up eating fresh caught trout.  She heated the fry pan and melted a good tablespoon or so of butter, and a little olive oil.  She seasoned the fish with salt and pepper, I think, and dredged it in a little bit of flour and cornmeal.  Fried it to flakey perfection!  And it melted in your mouth!
While I was out thrifting the other day for part of my Halloween costume, I found this bag of yarn with ten full skeins of lovely blue chunky yarn.
In addition to the 10 skeins of blue yarn, there were several other types of yarn added to the bag.  I am thinking about what I want to make.  Right now I am getting busy with Christmas orders for ear warmers and scarves and cowls.
Today is Christopher's actual birthday.  We have been invited to come along on their celebration to Wood Ranch tonight for dinner.  Looking forward to that.
Hope to be finding some more time in my day soon to catch up with all of my blogging friends.
XO  Kris

Yay! Way to go Greg!!! Nice looking trout and both ways of cooking the fish sound heavenly.

Cowls seem to be the fashion item of the season...I see them everywhere. Can't wait to see what you choose to make with your new yarn :)

Hubby scored his fish and you scored your big bag of yarn...looks like you both had some good luck. Colder here too. We are suppose to be getting thunderstorms tonight and all day tomorrow and possibly into Friday. I don't mind the rain, but the thunderstorms can just pass us by cause my one little dog will bark all night and I will have to sleep with 2 pillows, one for under my head and the other over my ears. Yikes! It's gonna be a long night....

Congrats to Greg for catching that gorgeous fish! And you're so smart for eating it quickly while it was so fresh. I like how your mom cooked it, too.

Hi Kris,

Now that's a happy man! A slight twist on 'bringing home the bacon'! Your dinner sounds delicious, both Greg's grill and your mom's pan fried version.

Have fun at Christopher's party and

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, to the fine young man!

WOW! Greg does look happy and he has a right to. That's a beautiful fish. I wish I would have been sitting around your table for dinner.
I have the flannel sheets on the beds too. So cozy to crawl into at night. They say we might have a snow flurry or two tonight.
Love your blue chunky yarn. Oh the possibilities.
Blessings,
Betsy

Showed John your hubby's trout. John is a fisherman too and was impressed. He taught me this summer how to cast but I haven't had another fishing experience since. Maybe next year. Great yarn find there. xo
