Thrifty Thursday

I have a couple small thrift finds to show you.  This honey jar is so cute.  I had a honey jar from Sur le Table, but I dropped it and it broke!  I still had the honey dripper, so with this find, I have a set once again.
It is a heavy pottery piece.  The saucer to catch drips is attached.  I love the embossed word, "HONEY" on the banner.  The top and sides have a sweet floral posy.
There are no chips anywhere, and I have never seen one like this.  We use honey a lot here.  In yogurt, tea, and sandwiches.  This will get a lot of use.
All of you yarny folks may have heard about the Nordic Shawl that is being made all across blogland lately.  It is crochet, and oh so pretty.  I have been wanting to purchase the pattern, and make one for myself.  I always check the textiles in thrift shops.  I have "rescued" several afghans that I absolutely love.  I saw this ecru piece and when I looked closer, could see that it was a shawl.  I fell in love with it.
Please ignore my chins looking down.  I was trying to crop my head out of the pic.  I am too lazy to go edit it.
It is such a nice size and weight.  I brought it home, and washed it, and line dried it right away.
Sorry for the pitiful pics.  But I loved it, and had to make it mine!  It was 3 dollars!
This Coldwater Creek loose knit zip hoody was a good find.  One dollar.
I like it together with this navy and  yellow for a nautical look.
A new lamp.  However, I removed the red lamp shade that was too big for the lamp, and put it on another lamp I have in the family room.
My Spring Wreath is hung and it makes me happy every time I look at it.
My favorite things on it are the little bunch of carrots with frilly tops, and the bird and nest.

I put the shade that was on the above lamp, on the new lamp and put it on the piano.  However, I am going to paint it with Oil Rubbed Bronze this weekend.
Once it is painted, the lampshade will look great.  It was 9.99, but the lampshade looked brand new, and the three light bulbs in it were probably worth that much!  Have you bought light bulbs lately!!!???
My friends know I love vintage and old things.  My girlfriend Joyce gave me this beautiful floral apron yesterday.  She took me out to a delicious lunch and then showered me with gifts.  This was for my birthday, as I was tied up with things in March.
She also gave me a pretty hummingbird stake to put in my garden.  And a terrific book on gardening!
Last night I got together with my high school girlfriends, and even though we stopped exchanging gifts a while ago, Sue gave this to me because she said she just couldn't resist, knowing that I have chickens.
Two little half dozen ceramic egg crates. My daughter Gennifer had gotten me the aqua one a long time ago, and I keep it on the counter to use every day.  It is always filled to overflowing, so these will certainly be put to good use!
Then today...my girlfriend Viki took me to lunch and we had such a nice time.  She got me this cute red gardening hat.
And made me some  yummy chocolate chip scones!
And tucked in a cute little chicken tablet.   I love my friends.  And I love how thoughtful they are.  I have been having such a fun and busy week, enjoying every minute.  Tomorrow night, my best pal Jae and I will be going out to dinner to celebrate our birthdays together, as they are one day apart.  Our husbands are going on a camping trip this weekend, so it will be a girls weekend for us!
I have been enjoying my Spring Birds and Garden journal.  I am sketching with colored pencils on each entry.  I have been having fun with that.  I am no artist, that is for sure, but it is fun to do, and fun to look back on.

Th...th...thhhhh....thhhat's all folks.
Nighty night!
XO  Kris

Kris I love the honey dish I've never seen one before, very cool. My mom too loved afghans and I was able to rescue a few from her house after she passed. She also had a crocheted pullover similar to yours and I need to look for it. You are truly blessed with wonderful friends.

I look forward to seeing more of your gardening adventures.

Hugs,

Valerie

I too love your journal. Its beautiful and I like that you use color for your sketches. As far as the shawl, I have one just like it I made many many years ago. I've been so ready to pass it on to GW but you enjoying this one has inspired me to maybe take it out of the tissue paper storage and use it. I did get rid of the poncho I made (in college.) Have a good weekend. Nice you are enjoying birthday celebrations with your buddies!

You are so cute and a$1 for a Cold Water creek sweater is awesome. They are so expensive. Just got home with three chicks. That is how I get over a dog with three chicks. Our feed store had mille fleur, bantams sebrights and silkies. Straight run tho so who knows what we will get to keep. They said they would take back any roos cause folks are always looking for those breeds. They are so teeny tiny. If all pullets then Dean will probably kill me but I have a second coop that is unused after all. Ok stop laughing at me. I can't help it I am utterly addicted to chickens.

Belated happy birthday! I am also a March baby ... the 20th (first day of Spring and my mom almost named me SPRING ... Oh, my!!). Anyway, I always celebrate the entire month before/after my birthday date ... when I was much younger I used to celebrate the month before my birthday month and the month AFTER my birthday month ... the DH said at some point it had to stop ... LOL Question: Do you leave your eggs on the counter all the time or do you refrigerate them?

All your thrifting finds are great and I would really like to steal those ceramic egg crate from you - pretty and useful! I've been away so I missed your garden post and now that I've seen it I'm so jealous that you can get started, I have to wait a few more weeks to be sure and avoid a late frost. Happy belated birthday and keep on getting dirty from one dirty hands girl to another.

You find such treasures. I love the honey pot. We have our own hive so we eat a lot of honey too.
I'm sad because most of your pictures did not upload for me this time so I could only read what you said and use my imagination.... I did that and everything looked great. Hugs, Lura

Hi Kris, Firstly, I think I need to delete some blogs I follow, because I often don't see current posts from my best ones-like you. Of course, life is simply crazy here so I might not be spending as much time in blogland as usual.
Love all the goodies you got. I have egg holders like yours too-got them for my birthday. Love your thrift sale finds-girl you have the perfect face for hats, me not so much!! Love you in the red one. I know you give as much as you are given, so it is no surprise your friends want to spoil you!
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Noreen

Since I am reading this on Easter Sunday I am sending you a belated Happy Birthday! You got so many nice gifts and I say that because your friends had you in mind when they purchased them. Friends who go the "extra mile" with purchasing gifts just shows you how special you are to them. Honey, don't worry about any double chins, truth is we all get them sooner or later along with all the other stuff that goes south on us. Believe me, as a nurse I have seen it all, skinny, normal and fat, sooner or later we all have saggy butts too no matter what size. Love the little notebook journal and your sketches.
(((HUGS))) Susanne :)
