Labor Day In Big Bear

I meant to do this post early last week, but time got away from me.  Whoever said that after your kids were raised you would have nothing but time, was nuts!!!!  Maybe nobody ever said that, but I used to think that. Now that I am in that season of my life, I am finding this to be very far from the truth.  But that's okay.  Life has been filled with good things!  Great things!  Happy things!  BUSY things!
Our oldest daughter Gennifer and her family went up to the cabin first, on Friday.  We joined them on Saturday morning.  We all got on the boat, and spent the entire day on the lake!  The girls were so excited to fish!!!  But first Geeps had to do a little work on the motor to get her purring just right.  The girls supervised.
We got out on the water, and it was beautiful!  Probably the best weather we had experienced all summer long.  Warm sun, gentle breezes, and boats everywhere!  Lots of boats!!!!
The girls got busy fishing after Geeps and Jake got their poles all set up.
Claire was so happy with her fish!
Hannah was so certain she wanted to go swimming.  So she began to go down the ladder off of the back of boat.....
They discussed it for a while, and then down she went.

Then straight back up, she came!  That water is COLD in Big Bear Lake!  She decided to get wrapped up in my sweatshirt instead.
We had such a good day.
Gennifer and her family went home that night, and the following morning, our middle daughter Erika, and her family arrived to spend the day on the boat.
Friends of ours recently bought a beautiful home on the lake, and were not using their place over Labor Day.  Mike told Greg to use his dock, so we just walked down to get on the boat that morning.  You can see how low the lake water is!  That area where we are walking is usually all under water.
Noah loves to help Geeps drive!
Geeps told Noah how to read the fish finder, and he was fascinated with that all day!  He would tell us just how many fish were beneath us, and where they were.
Erika and her fiance, Neal.
Neal has a little girl named Linkyn.  She is one year younger than Noah.  The kids get along really well.  And Neal is a great guy!  The more we get to know him, the more we like him!  Here are Linkyn and Noah waiting for their first hook up.
I think the first fish of the day was caught by Neal!  He wound up catching about 3, I think.
Then Linkyn caught her fish, on her pink princess fishing pole!  She was scared of it, and wanted nothing to do with it.  Can you see her hiding her face into Daddy?
I loved watching Neal with his little girl.  I put this picture on Insta Gram with the caption, " She thinks we're just fishin'"
He is very good to Noah too, and of course to Erika!
Finally, Noah caught his fish.  He was thrilled!
And so were we, that they all caught fish!!
We store them in a bait tank to revive them, and then put them back into the lake.
Bye bye fishie.  We will catch you again when you are bigger!!!
We stayed on the lake til the sun was nearly setting.  We had such a great time!
We brought the boat in and went back to the cabin to clean up.  It was our 35th Anniversary, and we had dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant in Big Bear, The Sweet Basil.  Erika and Neal and the kids went into town for dinner, and then headed back down the mountain.
We had two perfect days with our daughters and their families.  Our son and his girlfriend couldn't come up this time.  Greg and I enjoyed a fabulous meal, and then got up the next morning and went to our favorite place for breakfast.
Greg went fishing.  I went into town to do a little thrifiting.  Came home empty handed.  A first for me!  Stopped at the yarn shop that I like in Big Bear City to pick up some more of the yarn I love using to make dishcloths.  It is made by Lion, and it is half cotton and half acrylic.  It feels so nice in your hands while working with it, and it makes such nice cloths that dry really fast!
I can't find it down the hill, so I get a few skeins when I am in Big Bear.
We walked down to Boulder Bay Park and took a couple pictures of how low the water is.
We are sure hoping for a wet winter!  We had a perfect weekend at our "Happy Place."  Greg is actually up there right now, fishing.  He left about 5 this morning, but I didn't feel like getting out of bed to join him this time.  The weather is UGLY here!  HOT, and muggy!!!  Awful!  I am sitting in the house watching old movies.  I just saw Karate Kid.  I had never seen it!  Good movie!  Now I am watching Karate Kid 2.
Have yourself a good day!  I  have another busy week coming up.  A lunch date with a good friend tomorrow, and Grandparents day at the kids schools, and lots of fun things.  I am also getting my house ready for Fall.  Even though it is still very much summer outside!
Be happy!
XO Kris

Wow, you sure have been busy this summer, canning, crocheting, knitting, playing on the beach, boat, yard, chickens, preparing and canning food...need I say more? You are just awesome, wish I had your energy!

From all those nice pictures I would say everyone was enjoying themselves. This has been a busy summer for you. I bet you are feeling the load has gotten a bit lighter now that your garden is just about done.....but the pumpkins, I imagine they will be coming out soon along with the rest of the decorations. Hope you have a good week.

What a wonderful time you had at your Happy Place! Such beautiful pictures. I didn't know you could make dish cloths out of a mix; I thought they had to be 100%cotton. Enjoy your day!

Happy anniversary to both of you! Anway, it's always a nice experience to go fishing with the family, especially on a fine day like that. With that fish finder on your boat, you would always know where the fish will be plentiful. Also, Linkyn must have realized that fish aren't scary and would return to the lake afterwards. Hopefully, your next boating trip would be as fun as this! Take care!
