Goodbye Old Roof!

And thank you for not leaking all these years, even though we know it was just a matter of time.
The roofers arrived bright and early today, immediately getting to work, covering things, and preparing for the messy job ahead.
This is my view out of my new kitchen window today.
I hope my new windows are air tight, because there is a lot of debris flying around out there!
I was so glad to see them cover up my new windows with this big sheet of plywood!
Noah and Ducey are staying very close to me today. The noise is incredible.  It sounds like a herd of stampeding longhorn are running across the roof!!  One week, and we will be all done with the really messy stuff.  Deciding on paint colors, and then we'll have outside painted, and it will look like a new  house.
And what would a Monday be without waking up to a plumbing problem taboot?  I was quickly washing my face this morning, when, with eyes closed and soap all over my face, I felt a flood of water at my feet.  I said to myself, "Self, this cannot be good!"  Sure enough, water gushing out of pipe under sink.  I have a call in to Joe...hope  he calls back soon.

This was taken after it was all cleaned up.  Everything underneath was soaked.  Including my carpet in the area the towel is.  What next?  Last night my car was going crazy...flashing messages that read, check tire pressure, right head lamp out, and top off washer fluid!!
Yesterday Geeps had promised to go over and put Noah's new train set and table together that GiGi got him for his birthday.  He was quite the little helper too!!!
Mom, Noah was so excited with this train set!  He will enjoy this for many years to come.  All morning he has been asking to "Go HOME " so he can play with his train set.
Thank you Geeps...for putting my new train set together for me!!!
Now let's talk about paint.  I have been working really hard on our house.  Paint can give new life to so many things.  I used my old curtain rod for the new living room curtains I am making.  I painted it a deep espresso brown.  Bought the big bulky O rings to attach the new panels, and repainted the existing finials in what might be my new favorite paint of all time....Oil Rubbed Bronze by Rustoleum.
I painted a bunch of things on Saturday, but I didn't have any before pics because Gennifer was borrowing my camera.  Trust me, the difference it made was remarkable!  I painted some bathroom frames, a large brushed silver easel that I have a favorite photo on, and love because of the fleur de lis pattern.  Also a lamp I love and a large standing rooster that I keep in the guest bathroom for extra tp.  Oh, and the  curtain finials, and a few other things.  This paint goes on so smooth, no drips, and dries to the touch in about 30 min.  DREAM paint!  And the color is fantastic!
This lamp my Mom gave me.  I have it in our bedroom.  Love the lamp, but never liked the brash finish.  Now, I love it!
Last week one night, I was in a hurry to get out of the house to meet up with a couple of friends for dinner.  I was going to make a quick pass with the curling iron on my hair, and in what had to have been 1/100th of a second of curling iron to skin contact, I burned the heck out of my forehead.  Naturally, we had a busy few days coming up where I had to be out in public with this large ugly burn on my head!  I tried to wear a bit of bangs on Saturday to cover it up.  This morning I was out taking a picture of the roofers progress, and my much loved neighbor Carl came over to say hello. They had just returned from their winter home in Arizona.  We chatted a bit, and upon saying goodbye to leave, he says...."Hey....don't let Greg hit you on the forehead like that!!"  I laughed, knowing exactly what he was referring to.  I said " Don't worry, he looks worse!"

That's it this morning from our banging and clanging, roof top going, plumbing breaking, and crazy circus like,  trying to get a face lift house.  I will be back tomorrow with more pictures of the roof progress, and a few more of my new favorite things from Fresh & Easy!
Happy Monday!

Oh Kris, anyone who knows me well knows that I LOVE a "work project", a "face lift" or any sort of home renovations or re-decorating ~ so I am especially enjoying your posts recently. How exciting to be getting the new roof, but I am really anxious to see the new paint, shutters and door etc. Noah's train set and table look soo fun. Jeffie and JD both would love it. And the burn on the forehead? Soo something I would do, haha...Hopefully it will heal up quickly...Looking forward to further posts. = )

Hooray for your new roof!

I bet it is super loud. I can just see Noah and Ducey clinging to your legs!

That first pic of Dad and Noah and his new train table is really cute.

You've been busy. I love that paint! I am going to have to try that. I have an old ceiling fan in my den that could really use an update! I am so glad you like the magic windows!

Yay for a new roof.. Can't wait to see the finished product! And I HATE curling iron burns.. How is it the tinyest burns or cuts hurt the worst?

Wow, you have SO much going on at home! Quiet a post!!!

Sorry that Joe wasn't able to get out there...I think he tried giving you a call tonight and you took care of it! Good hand work! Glad it wasn't something more serious! You have enough on your hands!

How exciting to have all of those projects going on. I love the way you tell about everything. That paint looks great. I have a few items here that could use a little refresher. Can't wait to see what is next.

You mean, over those years that your roof was installed, it has never given you any problems, such as leaking? That’s amazing! It only means that the roof was made of good quality materials and it was properly installed. Well, I’m sure you will get the same contractor who installed the old roof. This speaks about how good the roofing company is.

Why did you decide to change the roof when it doesn’t have leaks? I am just curious. You see, we’re living in our house for five years already, and the roof is still at its best condition (though the house was made around ten years ago). Since we wanted to have a new look for our home exterior, we decided to have it repainted than replaced. Do you think that was a good idea? I hope so! And I’ll see the results in the next few days. By the way, you’ve done a good job of repainting of your furniture. :)

@Kermit – I guess the repainting will do the trick in your renovation, but I hope you still checked the roof for damages before repairing it. I know the painting can change the curb appeal of the house and could complement with your renovation plans, but securing the quality of the roof is a bigger deal. I just hope that your roof is still in good condition.
