Mr. G's Mexico Adventure!

Well, Mr. G got home last night about 6:00 p.m.  I had not eaten, thinking we would go to have a nice dinner somewhere and I would hear all about his trip.  He called when he landed and said he was on his way home.  Nothing in his voice indicated anything out of the ordinary.
I heard his car pull into the garage, and Ducey was waiting anxiously at the door for his master.  I was waiting in the kitchen.  He came in, and as he appeared around the corner of the laundry room into the kitchen where I was standing, I was shocked at what I saw!  He was bent over in half, as though he was bending at the waist to touch his toes.  He tilted his head up and said, " Hi, I think maybe we better go to the hospital."  WHAT?   Apparently, he came down with what he suspected was kidney stones on Wednesday night.  IN MEXICO!!!!!  He had them 18 years ago.  During a period of tremendous stress in his life.  It was awful.  I quickly gathered up my things and got him into the car and off we went to the hospital.  I called my daughter, who's husband works at one of the hospitals near us as a Pharmacist, and let her know we were headed there.  Jake met us in the ER.  We were immediately taken back to triage where he was quickly assessed and then he was put into a room, and hooked up to an IV all within the first 20 min. of our arrival!  The doctor came in and gave instructions for pain meds to be given.  This almost instantly relieved the horrible pain.  Enough to allow him to sleep on and off.  The first time he was comfortable since Wednesday  night!  On Wednesday evening, he decided he wasn't going to be able to get on the boat the next day for fishing.,  He stayed behind, and took a taxi to the medical clinic.  He was put on an IV, and given an array of medicines, none of which he was familiar with.  But he took them as instructed.  They didn't seem to help.  He went back to the clinic the next day.  Still no better, and probably worse.
By then the pain had become so bad in his left leg, that he could barely stand or walk.  And now his entire knee was numb.  He was somewhat concerned about a back problem, since the previous kidney stone experience didn't involve the leg at all.    I have no idea how he made it through the rest of the week.  Or managed to get his gear and him self checked  out of where they were staying, then make the hour long ride in a van to the airport, through customs, and then onto the plane for the very uncomfortable ride home. Then back through customs and baggage claim, and finally the hour long drive home, alone.  I have no idea!
Luckily, he was seen and treated immediately at the hospital.  They did a CT scan and all the other tests to try to determine for sure that it was kidney stones.  The CT did not show the stone and they wanted to do another test for renal tumors.  NO!!!  We knew it wasn't that.  Not with the sudden onset of pain, and similar symptoms as before. Plus the other tests indicated a positive for kidney stones.  We were there for several hours while he was on IV and pain meds.  We left with a script for pain and instructions to follow up on Monday with his own doctor.  I stopped at Walgreens to drop the script off, and got him home and into bed.  Went back to get the medicine, and woke him to give it to him.  He slept fairly good until 4 a.m.  Took more pain meds, and then slept again til about 8:30. He is up and in the family room now....still in and out of sleep. Thank goodness for pain medicine.  Crossing fingers the the stone passes quickly.  Suffice it to say it wasn't the relaxing week of rest and fun he had hoped for.
Lo siento mi esposo!!!!

Oy Vey! What a tough man you have. I can't imagine being in Mexico (of all places) to get sick. I hope he recovers long before Monday is here.

Oh, how very scary! It must have been awful to feel so horrible and be so far from home. I will be praying that the meds keep him comfortable until it passes. Take care both of you!

Oh Kris I feel bad that I am just now reading this...Hopefully he is feeling batter now with some pain meds and his wonderful nurse in attendance. I can't think of a lot worse than to be sick and in great pain and soo far away from home and your own doc and meds and significant other...I have heard how PAINFUL those can be...I am praying he passes it quickly and soon is back to his healthy normal self. Love to you both...

Scary! Kidney stones are painful anyway but stones in Mexico without the right meds must have been miserable. Hope things are better quickly.
